Thank you Carol. I for one am excited about the World cup. Not for the Tourney itself, I suspect it will be a little more intense then the ASG but not the same compete level as a mid season NHL game.
What really excites me is that the NHL season will start with all top players in mid season form. Hockey will finally be fun to watch in October. I know some of you have brought up injuries and yes there will be some but it will be because of freak accidents rather then results from playing hard. Every player knows that this is just another glorified ASG but the national team jersey will add the pride and the requirement to play a little harder.
I feel sorry for the suckers that will pay huge $$ to go to these games. But on the positive note, the cap might go up by 5mil next season because of this. We will need to resign Bo, Gaunce (future Capt), Etem, Gudy, Tree, Hutton,Pedan, Sedins and FA.

Burke's MO. He seems to hate player agents. Always plays hardball.

I always respected that but I lost some of that respect when he was negotiating Bertuzzi's contract years ago. He put our then owners in a really tough situation saying publicly that it is the hands of the owners now to sign the massive contract he negotiated (massive for the time... doesn't seem so massive compared to today's prices).

I am glad Burke isn't negotiating and Treliving is

This raises an interesting question... How many of us actually promote HB to their friends? I know I don't.

This is where I come to be rude and petulant. I don't want my friends see this side of me.

It's surprising how few flames fans post on HB. Canadiens, Leafs, Oilers, and canuck treads seem to have lots of activity. Flames, Sens, and Jets treads not so much. Jets you can understand. The other two ????
- bloatedmosquito

People don't hate the flames jets or sens like they do the others ...the threads are never as heated as the others ...fan base is not as big as the Canucks leafs habs either

It will indirectly. The gate and ad revenue will be split but the ratings increase will be big in terms of branding. There will be a lot of indirect HRR impact due to this tourney.

Yes, there is that.

But to be honest, when I get together with old friends, the conversation isn't much different than it is in here. Insults and overreactions included.

Funny, they consider me Mr. Doom & Gloom as well.

- bloatedmosquito

Wow, intuitive friends you have! How did they figure it out?

Yes and no.

Nonis had a similar role to Treliving's. Contract negotiator for the team. Just different titles. I'm assuming Burke hasn't changed much and I'm sure he has some say whether a contract gets approved or not.

There's still a pecking order so I get what your sayin but I think assistant gm to gm is different or at least different enough than gm and president

To me treliving comes across as a smart person ...nonis comes across as the fat kid who was made fun in school and more of a follower

We all wear different hats depending on the situation. Work-mosquito acts and behaves much differently than cottage-mosquito who acts much differently than dad-mosquito.

Your audiences have different expectations.

I agree about roles. Burkie probably doesn't have the impact he once did in Vancouver.

But don't kid yourself about Nonis. He was captain of the Maine Black Bears and led the team to back-to-back NCAA championship tournaments. He had skills.

I don't think it will be hard for these teams to become mediocre again. Getting into the playoffs isn't that difficult. Lots of teams get into the playoffs with really average rosters. It's winning the playoffs that seem so difficult for canadian teams to do. At least flames won it once.

A flames/canucks series might not be that far off in the future but will either team be actual threats to win the cup? I think that is many, many years away.

(frank) that's funny. I laughed out loud.

To see cottage-mosquito you'd have to be willing to drive out to cultus lake, hang out around the fire pit, and be willing to smoke copious amounts of indica.

You won't hear one word about Benning. I guarantee you.

I'm hoping Jimmy Vesey signs in Carolina and we never hear about him again until he bangs Eddie Lack's wife.
