You can't disprove an unknown and that's what annoys me about this whole Vesey situation. This blog points out the logical and lists a host of players all more highly projected than Vesey.

So why are we talking about Vesey? Because he's got a great management/p.r. team behind him. They made a mountain out of a mole hill.

The logical has been pointed out: His numbers went up when he was older than the rest of the competition in a not so competitive division.

But because you can't disprove an unknown, you can't argue with the narrative that HE COULD be a top-six player.

He's a former 3rd round pick.
He's 23 years old.
He's never played Professional hockey.

Statistically speaking the odds are NOT in his favor. But again, nobody can argue that he couldn't be very good. You can say that about any prospect though.

Yes, players drafted after the second round can pan out, we see it every year, but it's still a very low percentage.

Then there's the narrative that it's a low risk/high reward signing. What about the host of other 2nd and 3rd round picks each team has from the past two or three years? Aren't they equally as low-risk/high-reward?

I'm hoping the Pens don't sign him. Yeah, the Pens have some question marks on the LW, but I'd rather go into the season with the team that just won a cup and see how they pan out. Plus, leave that little bit of cap space open for any potential deadline deals they may need to make.

Hard to blame the kid for staying in School and getting a Havard degree.

Then...well if you just graduated and had the opportunity to wait a couple of months to become a UFA why wouldn't you?

It's a loophole in the CBA...it just fell into his lap.
Blame the CBA, blame the media for hyping this up, but pretty tough to lay any actual blame on him.

exactly. the hate he's getting for that part of it is stupid.

he's a good prospect that you can acquire for nothing but a rookie contract. it's pretty (frank)ing simple.

Blackball him to the KHL, he has not proven anything, and we all hate stuck up players that hold out who have not proven anything. He is a complete Fail. Including his agent.

I'm not even a Preds fan, but I believe in signing with the team that drafts you and working hard for the organization to be a team player.

Just kind of old school thinking, I guess.

Honestly Nashville would have been a very good fit for him.

He'd likely slot behind Matthews, Marner, Nylander but that's about it.
- yemrots

His college numbers are similar to Hyman, and he's done nothing to show that he's better than Brown, Kapanen, Carrick, Bracco etc

No problem with him finishing his education. I just honestly don't believe in the hype and hope the bruins don't buy too deep into it.

I have no problem with his decision. It's built into the CBA and that's that.

That doesn't mean i think it's a good choice for the bruins to grab him

Two totally different topics on the same player in two different threads.

This is gonna be great. Whoever gets this kid the fanbase will be so hyped for a guy they've probably never seen step onto the ice and whoever misses out will claim he's gonna be a bust also never having seen him play

i think he will. top 4? i don't know. but if it doesn't work out all you've got to worry about is a rookie contract cap hit with most of the bonuses not met.

Also, he is such a hot commodity because he's gonna be making peanuts for two years. You're getting him for nothing. If he's a bust? So what? . Let him go.
