Oh no doubt, the finals will be worth watching because both teams will probably actually be trying about 90 percent to win. I don't hate Team NA/Europe, I just look at the Men's Basketball in the Olympics and how the USA is just that much better/deeper and how dominant they are and how pointless it makes the tournament when you have a super team full of superstars against teams with maybe one or two pros who are at best second to third tier stars or even bench warmers. You know that Team USA is going to win the gold unless they really poop the bed and with how deep they are, that's not likely so it loses a lot of cache.
Not to mention Women's Hockey, where it's HIGHLY unlikely the finals of every major world championship/Olympics isn't going to be Canada/US when both teams are that much better than everyone else. It makes the entire tournament pointless to watch save for the finals which defeats the entire purpose of it. - DariusKnight
Don't you think there's value there, for growing the game? If not for the Olympics, what incentive is there for other countries to invest in hockey, or for someone in those countries to play it?
Yeah it's pretty much a guarantee that Canada will play USA for gold, but there's still a bronze metal game. You don't think people from those countries are watching, and cheering on their team? To me, that's not pointless. |

We were talking about the Olympics in that context. Hope you had a good chuckle tho. |

It's almost like a phaneuf scenario where he is capable of playing the minutes but you get the most out of him at less minutes and more offensive role
Maybe EG can end up with tanev as your shutdown pair and edler can be second pairing and return to more offensive minded game - Redmile247
As much as Phaneuf is a pilotnew sometimes, I'd have to agree to an extent. Edler just needs to focus more on offense and play less PK minutes. I think Gudbranson can eat some of the harder minutes and provide the relief. With the talk about Larsen playing 1st PP duty, they have to be thinking along these lines.
Ultimately that part is up to WD now and I think that's where Edler could benefit as long as those are the roles he is played in. |

For Dragon,
Jarvis is still the current Ironman record holder for consecutive games played. He brings a plethora of helpful skills and won the Selke in 84'.
My favorite part about him isn't just his 6 Stanley cups (4 as a player and 2 as a coach), but the ironman streak just screams dedication. Hopefully he can show some guys what it takes to show up every night. It was a different game back then but still a pretty amazing feat. Never missed a game in his entire career. - WhatTheNuck
really.....thats very cool. Thanks for sharing it.
I do remember his name but dont remember much about him as a player. What else did you find out?
Position? Any crazy stats? |

I just used phaneuf as an example of a guy who thrived better in different roles ...I agree ..let him play in a more offensive role as he seems to have a fairly decent shot when he ever uses it |

Didn't really look for stuff on him as a player but more the roles he was when he coached. He seem to run the PP in Boston but had limited success. I think he has strengths from a defensive prospective, but he seems to have a pretty versatile background.
That being said, he hasn't been a head coach yet and some might think that's a red flag. However, sometimes people know the roles they are better suited for. Time will tell.

I think we have a half decent team that needs direction from a coaching prospective now. If WD can have a little more faith in his players and play to their strengths, we just might not end up a tire fire of a team this year and at least turn some heads. |

I recall reading that Jarvis was moved to the special teams when they lost the last special teams guy....he was above average but not nothing that'd be at the top.
Previous he was their defensive coach, in particular during the 2011 cup win. Im not 100% sure if he was still D coach or houda during 2012/2013 season, but whoever it was that coach was brilliant. Reviewing the playoff series against the Pens that year shows this. Shut down that potent offense quite well leading to the sweep. If that was Jarvis we have a jem! |

Hamhuis earned his NTC and had the right to not waive it. 10 days before he said he didn't know if he was going to and it would need to depend where. Same as Vrbata offered 10 teams that had no interest in him. We don't know what goes on behind closed doors - VANTEL
Garrison earned his but he still got the treatment... Linden and JB didn't have a problem going to him and asking him to waive. I'm sure they put the screws to him.
They should have done the same with Hamhuis. They would have got more than the 2nd Garrison got back for the team or the 3rd that was offered by Dallas as a consolation for trying.... |

http://www.wingingitinmotown.com/2016/8/15/12470206/brotherly-love-should-the-wings-trade-for-ryan-miller - Scooby_Doo
They act like Markstrom isn't a promising goalie? Miller for Howard str8 up? Why would JB do that? Take on a longer contract of a goalie that Detroit is desperately trying to unload? Salary cap space is gold. Miller is up at the end of the year. Why trade for another 3 years at 5 million? I'd rather have Miller for all the reasons.
Detroit needs to add to that deal if they wanna move the salary so bad. Not happening. |

There can be 15 different opinions about any player. I understand your thoughts on Garrisson. I personally did not like the D back then. I thought it was too soft . It struggled scoring throughout the line up.
For the same reason you are not thrilled about Tanev , I didn't like Garrisson Hamhuis Edler and Tanev.
You can't have a full D core of not hitting , scoring , or fighting. I don't think Tanev and Edler are a good combo .
Tanev as a stand alone is the best option IMO. He is solid and reliable. Hopefully he learns to score.
That said I do see why you post your thoughts on the D . I don't agree on Garrisson but that's the beauty of this site. |

Province asking the question again today " Should Canucks trade Edler?".
I think as a stand alone trade no. It also depends on what they are getting back. If you can get your future center back, then your ears perk up a little.
You would need to get back someone also to hold the fort for 2-3 years , the same length as Edlers contract. |
