Call me old fashion but I don't understand the holdup. My father use to play with newspapers taped behind pillows as pads , and frozen horse turds as hockey pucks, surely they can be more creative to find a solution |

You know you can't possibly go wrong with a source named Purple Grimace. Now if we can get verification from Mayor McCheese, we'll be all set (good times, by the way, good times) |

more evidence it is a business... custom everything, goalies protecting their brand- stats, reputation, legacy.
Do they have the same issues/challenges with goalies in international hockey? |

I'm with Miller and Markstrom on this, this is definitely not something that should be rushed (or even be done IMO) but that's probably because I also play Goalie, and would be in the group firmly opposed to these almost constant changes they want to make to either equipment or the size of the net |

With the way referees call (or not) contact with the goalie, the league/nhlpa has to balance the need to stop the puck while protecting the goalie.
With the way players go to the net leading to incidental contact, I think if I was a goalie and my equipment was reduced, I'd want to go back to when the net was solid, not the break away pegs. |

I remember Lou Angotti destroying his leg on the old posts. |

I wonder what would have happened with Stamkos if there wasn't any give in the posts? if I was a goalie, I'd want some of these players to slow down because it's dangerous, and even more so if the goalie has less gear on. |

Players are so much bigger and faster now especially goalies. |

Clearly an anti-canuck bias by the NHL as both Miller and Markstrom have been targeted. |

I'd be curious to know if there are more or less injuries after going break away peg, or w/e it's called?
My older brother started hockey before kids wore cages, I think they just had mouth guards or something, and my dad said as soon as kids started wearing cages, the sticks started coming up. in the interest of self preservation, players would adapt.
I'm not sure if all the extra padding goalies adopted was to stop the puck or protection from players and contact?
it is like a race to the puck that is on the boards, you are going to slow down before you get there, or are at least planning to stop, because there is nowhere to go beyond the boards, not going through them.
I don't know, I think the goalie equipment needs addressing, and can understand goalies not wanting to adopt changes that may put them at risk. while also there is the risk of change and the unknown, the fear changes could expose or create some hole in their game maybe?
equality/equity balance. |
