furyk cost me points down the stretch, should have played reed yesterday instead

I played piercy instead of bello yesterday but on sunday you need to play the guys in contention for bonus points (1st, 2nd and 3rd)

Furyk might win today. I can see him going low and the others near the lead faltering.

NYR will almost definitely make the playoffs
idk what makes u think they miss?
It would take a lot going wrong for that to happen

- jdfitz77

They aren't very good

They will have a tough time scoring IMO and their defence is worse, if Lundquist falters in anyway I could easily see them missing the playoffs. They were what, 8 points or something last year from missing?

So all this arguing about a third rounder not turning into much and yet the sought olayer was drafted when? The third round.

Less mystery since he's had an additional 3+ years to develop compared to the 18/19 year olds that are drafted

Lundqvist would have to get hurt, or play badly for them to miss IMO

Correct. But acting like people that oppose the pick are loonies just shows the irony in the situation.

We gave Jaime McGinn to the Ducks to talk to Jimmy Vesey for a few weeks.

It is what it is. Another trade that doesn't look good. Good gamble, sure. Result is just another reason for other fan bases to continue to laugh at Murray's arrogance. This team needs to have a breakout year. I think it can happen

I love GMTMs aggressiveness, but that also makes him a target when he doesn't succeed. That said, he needs to start hitting on some these opportunities ... I think that chance improves significantly when the team improves on ice ... It will make Buffalo more attractive to the elite, that they could be the one missing piece to put them over the top.
Net/net is this is a critical year to take the next step. They need to be in the chase for a playoff spot down the the wire.

Breakout is a relative term. For the first time in years I think we will challenge for a playoff spot, thats a breakthrough. Unfortunately, if your choices for top pairing 25 min a night d-man are kulikov, bogosian or gorges you're probably going to end up on the outside of the playoff picture. An in season trade will be necessary.

Edit: The value in the McGinn trade was not paying him the 4+ million that he wanted.

Since we missed out on Vesey we need a winger that has top 6 potential.

Nyquist
Pulkkinen
Nichushkin
Rieder
Fast

It won't be easy to get any of these guys and for some, it could be costly.

I do feel like Ennis can slide in and play a 2nd line LW position well, but I do hope the Sabres sign/trade for another winger with top 6 potential as well. Not a lot left on the board for the Sabres to snag and next year there are not a lot of LW's that will be UFA's. I think Zack Smith from OTT might be the best LW UFA that we can get next year. Steen, Marleau, and Sharp are all UFA's next season but they are all past their prime's and I think they resign. Marchand's contract also expires after this season, but I am sure the Bruins resign him as well.

I'm surprised you mention Fast in this list. Thought the consensus among even Rangers fans is that he is a gifted bottom 6 type of guy.

the 2 times we made the playoffs, after briere and drury walked, we really were not a good team

miller got hot one year

team limped into the playoffs the other year

this time if we make the playoffs, it will be due to the team being good all around

That's true that he probably fits as 3rd line RW but he compiled some decent stats last year with the Rangers, 10g and 20a so maybe he is a late bloomer type of guy.

As it stands right now Ennis is in your top 6 but I'm not sure what would be the best fit for him, with ROR or Eichel. He might fit better with ROR but I like Kane there.

I mentioned both Pulkkinen and Nyquist because the Red Wings have cap trouble. Nichushkin might be falling out of favor in Dallas and Rieder is the most interesting of the group. The LW UFA's left are garbage and as you pointed out, not much better next year. If we are going to get a winger for the top 6 it will need to come from a trade.
