It's a $90 bid, if I get them and don't like them I will dump them on craigslist - homiedclown
Not a big risk at all. You could sell them back on eBay and make a profit. One of my golf buddies does that. |

I can't talk, I have a 14 pack of rolling rock in the back of the fridge for emergency - homiedclown
I won't choose Bud or Rolling Rock even as swill beer.
But sometimes you don't get a choice, and when you're swilling, you're swilling. |

Gorges is a vet, both Risto and Pysyk are/were young
Pysyk is a RHD, Gorges LHD
I don't think Pysyk is as good as his stats show he is. In fact I think he has a lot of holes in his game. Fact is though almost every one of his numbers are positive outside of scoring and penalties taken, and pretty much all of Gorges numbers are god awful.
This isn't just when he was asked to play a top role in Buffalo, he had bad numbers on a good Montreal team and that's one of the reasons they chose to trade him, and resign Alexie Emelien who isn't much better - sbroads24
just a few of gorges stats that aren't "god awful":
--lead sabres in blocked shots with 167
--lead sabres d-men in hits with 143
--his 17 giveaways were the least amongst any sabres starters on defense
--second in penalty kill minutes amongst d-men: 2:16/gm (3rd on team)
--third in atoi/gm amongst d-men with 20:27 (5th on team)
--his minus-7 was third amongst d-men appearing in 60 or more games
that said, although I agree that first-pairing minutes for him is a big stretch, he's hardly a bum...
imo

These are nice in theory but leading in blocked shots usually means that when you're on the ice blocking shots you don't have control of the puck. In some cases this is true with hits as well.
He did some good work on the PK ill give him that, a scenario where his shot blocking ability is a plus.
Didn't know about the giveaways though, impressive. |

I believe brody was looking at possession numbers when he came up with the god-awful stats and I was simply looking at the "old fashioned" ones both of which are two sides to the gorges coin
that said, gorges is a defensive defenseman and i'd hazard to guess--whithout looking or caring to look--that his d-zone starts were probably near the top amongst defenseman....and if you took all of his starts, i'd also hazard to guess that he would probably be amongst the leaders in d-starts as a percentage of overall starts
if someone wants to do the work, have at it |

This is all true, but even then he doesn't really do a good job in that role.
The league still has a place for a Josh Gorges, just as a #6 d man, and not making almost 4 mil. He's replacement level at this point |

I thought he performed well last season considering how he was playing on a pairing beyond his skill-level...he's a defensive-minded mid-lower pairing defenseman who's a workhorse on the pk and I don't have a problem with that at this point in time |

he was a minus-7 and had the third-least number of giveaways amongst d-men despite spending most of his time trying to get the puck back in the defensive zone...that's how I saw it and that's what the stats are saying...
now, the $4m thing, I agree...but we need to keep in mind the events surrounding the trade for him and that contract |

If we have no one's better, sure. But this isn't the Sabres of the last 5-6 years anymore. If Guhle is a better 5 or 6 D man, play the guy with more upside |

I think I got pretty close to 30 beers a few times in college, but never as far as 33.
And for me "the meaning of life" buzzes always came from peyote, not beer. |

Gorges rarely handles the puck. So that's a little misleading. Guys who handle the puck more will have more giveaways.
I'd be willing to bet without looking Bogo/Risto were 1 and 2 |

that's a tough one because they're different types of defensemen...
but, I hate the position the sabres are in with guhle--either whl or nhl...would love to see him in Rochester next season, at least to start...it will be interesting to see what kind of camp and preseason he has |

If he was close last year to getting a try out, I'd imagine he'd be slightly closer this year. I think he is going to be pretty solid |

if he blocks a shot and the sabres control the puck, not only does he stop a scoring opportunity, but the team gains possession...if he hits a player into coughing up the puck and the sabres gain possession because of it he's doing his job despite not handling the puck |

dude, I think guhle's gonna be a good one...not sure when it will really start coming together, but he's already considered top-four...and he was a second-rounder too |
