Thinking of something like the hipsters in town are doing. Don't have a beard to go with it, but might look cool without. |

It's kind of funny, I don't see any Pittsburg, Chicago or LA fans in here explaining to us the proper way to build a competitor, it's fans of teams that finished at the bottom of the standings. It's like Larry explaining to Curly and Moe how to split the atom. - CubanBuffet

This reminds be of my trip to Seattle to watch the Jays last year. We had a group of 12 and after we tired of heckling the pitcher we turned our attention to a young American fellow seated a few rows in front of us. After chanting "Man Bunnnn" for several minutes he chose to relocate |

Or some people just want to talk hockey and go on lively boards that have people willing to engage.
Let's stop calling everyone with disagreeing opinions trolls and stop saying "well your team sucks," when faced with diverging opinions.
I'm not calling you out specifically but any hockey fan has their own opinion on how to build a team. Call out the opinion not the allegiance.
After all, it's not like we all of a sudden got dumber just b/c the Canucks slid in the standings. (We were always this dumb ) - RealityChecker

The worst comments in arguments are the, you are an idiot if you believe this, without much of, if any, explanation.
When someone says the Canucks are doing it wrong, I want to hear what is the right way to do it. what is the proven way.
what is the person's perspective and background for telling me the Canuck approach is wrong, what have they experienced? what team do they root for?

The funny thing, and it's hard not to take part, is when you start treating the offseason like something that you can win or lose. I thought the Penguins were out of their minds last summer, which shows what I know. |

Do you really want to hear another Leafs fan tell you the only way to rebuild is the Edmonton model? I'll pass |

At least Toronto has used their assets to maximize draft picks and haven't rushed their young talent into the NHL. That's not to say they will be successful, but those are both things that Edmonton didn't do. |

This is true, but until they show an improvement on the ice they are still as pathetic as Edmonton. They are a long way away from having a competitive team. I see very little difference between the Edmonton and TO rebuild style. Sure, they left a few players in the minors for longer but I am not convinced that will lead to a noticeable difference in their development. The Oilers kids suck because there weren't any solid veterans to shield them from high leverage situations and they were thrown on the ice to get throttled every night. The Leafs will do the same thing |

The Leafs will do a lot of things, but that is literally the one thing they won't do. Both Mike and Lou are renowned for not just throwing kids out onto the ice. I can't even think of two other guys in the profession more averse to icing a team of kids. |

If the Leafs win a cup in the next 5 or so years I will listen, but until they win a cup I really don't want to hear it.
If the Edmonton model hasn't worked out so far, I don't know why people would cite it or adopt it as the model.
when someone tries to sell you on something, you want to see that thing work. where are the examples of teams tanking for years, on purpose, and then turning it around to win a cup? and at the same time, how many times did this approach not work?

I disagree. Will Willie and Marner make the team this year? I think so. Who are your solid veterans? JVR? Bozak? Polak? |

I think the Leafs just have a very insecure fanbase. I for one can't blame them. They have been fed a brutal team for decades and they are being sold on a full tank style rebuild. They need to believe in something so they have embraced the bs Shanahan is selling. Due to their insecurities they are preaching to the rest of the league that their method of rebuild is the only appropriate way. Of course the media is banging their drum loudly as well. |

Matthews are Nylander for sure. Doubtful on Marner.
They'll also have a mixture of Soshnikov, Hyman and Brown.
I'm sure you'll agree, teams can afford 3 or 4 rookies on a 23 man roster.
Veterans I'd say will be Laich, Polak, Bozak, Van Riemsdyk, Martin, Greening, Michalek, Lupul (for 18 or so games) and Hunwick.
Middle ground you'd be looking at Kadri, Holland, Rielly, Gardiner, Andersen, Enroth and an older rookie in Zaitsev. |

That is my point...the kids are being thrown to the wolves with a sad list of veterans like that. Other than Rielly (who is still a kid), it's a roster of plugs. |
