Does Seattle have a rink? Why weren't they in on the expansion application? All I read was something about wanting a rink and looking for an NBA roomie or something? Can someone fill me in? - djlarose
They have a couple of groups looking for a team, and willing to build a rink.
But the league wants the building in place before committing, and they want a commitment before building an arena... |

it's a franking joke! Why don't they try to make the playoffs? - CanuckDon
Because their management is afraid they'll be accused of not following the hallowed Toronto method tank, tank and tank some more...playoffs are overrated...it's either Stanley Cup or tank....don't you follow HB GM's |

They don't remind me at all of those teams. They remind me of a bunch of cheap ass owners that always scream they are poor . - VANTEL
Oakland A's, so cheap they play in a dump stadium and are credited as the inventors of Moneyball and the Rays who are often mentioned to be the team to relocate to Montreal. Both narratives sound fairly similar to the Arizona Coyotes, not to mention a history of losing |

The Pirri deal guarantees that Michael Grabner hits the waiver wire again.
What a fall from grace for a once promising rookie.
Probably heads to KHL next. - Vanoxy
I would bet that he beats out Jooris, Glass, Gerbe and lappierre.
If I had to take a shot at their lineup it would be...
Kreider Stepan Zuccarello
Nash Zibby Hayes
Vessey Milller Fast
Pirri Lindberg Grabner
Jooris
That's probably the fastest forward group by a stretch. Soft but super fast and skilled.

It really is a sad state of affairs...despite the change to the lottery teams are still rewarded for tanking. I will never forget Shanahan saying they earned 1st overall. A true disgrace. I believe that all teams that miss the playoffs should have an equal chance at first overall. Or at the very least, change the odds dramatically. Its a joke watching teams unload all of their NHL caliber players by the mid point of the season. Teams like TO and Arizona have already begun the tank and the season hasn't started. |

The odds in the past 3 years have changed pretty significantly and we have started to see lesser teams losing out on positions. I think we will see the latest changes continue this pattern. I personally would be more upset if a team like LA misses the playoffs and wins 1st overall a lot more than teams tanking to try and get to the bottom.
The sad thing about Arizona is the fact that they have purposely destroyed their team and still have had better records than teams trying to win.
There is absolutely no excuse for Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary and Winnipeg to be worse than Arizona and Buffalo.

Already signed a 7.5 per year deal so you are right a good chunk of that cash is already spent. Huberdeau does need a contract though.

Strangely my sources have been quiet these days....
I was just guessing because of the Tallon connection and Chicago always needing to shed space.
After seeing their cap scenerio for next year though I doubt they can afford a big contract like that though. |

Approx 17 mil in space if the same 15 players signed and as you said JH needs a raise |

Are you including Ekblad's extension in there?
I get ~ 64 committed without signing Huberdeau |

I added wrong but just checked again and counted ~ 64. Cap friendly says 54 as well but once you add up the salary it is actually much more.
Regardless I was wrong and it looks like they have lots of space. |

Last heard when a group offered to build one the city said no - VANTEL
That was the Chris Hansen group.
They wanted to buy a chunk of property controlled by the city in the old Kingdome/Industrial area. They couldn't work out a deal.
He is still looking for a location, and isn't seeking any funding from the City or State, so it's still a work in progress.
There are at least 2 other groups, with deep pockets still in the hunt as well. I think the price of real estate in Seattle is the killer right now. With The new Football and Baseball stadiums built in the last decade or so, there just aren't a ton of vacant spaces to house a new arena plus parking etc. Buying out a big chunk of residential or commercial businesses is cost prohibitive to say the least. |

2 out of the last 3 years..... even though we picked 6th in 2014 we were the 5th worst team I believe.
Nvm. I was wrong. |

But there is, year's of poor drafting and management will kill any teams future.
The Oilers management has been nothing short of tragic since 2007 (until last year), the Canucks were poorly managed from a building perspective under Mike Gillis, the Flames have been a middling poorly constructed team for years but have recently drafted very well and Winnipeg is still suffering from the Atlanta curse.
If you let your team, as an owner, go through five years of poor drafting, eventually it's gonna come back and bite you in the ass!!! |
