Kane will take himself of the list by doing something else stupid. He could end up in Vegas. Perfect spot for him
- lulags

I don't think Murray wants to lose him for nothing. He might be a trade deadline deal.

Kulikov is the wild card. Could be huge for us. I hope we don't do anything stupid like trying to play Nylander this year before he is ready.
- lulags

Even if Nylander played this year he won't be exposed to the expansion draft. Kulikov is the wild card and will Murray re-sign him? If he does he will be protected. If you trade Girgs for another player that player will be protected. Lots of different scenarios.

I don't think he's here next year. I know he said they view him as a long term add but imo that trade was more about moving up in the draft than anything else. Even if he only asked for the same salary on a new contract I dont know where you'd put him. Unless McCabe becomes the top pairing guy.

I totally understand that. If Bylsma and Murray really like his game he could be re-signed but you don't put him with Risto long term because he's not a 1/2 guy. I think he's a perfect 3/4 guy but that's McCabe's spot imo. Asplund might have been the main focus in that Kulikov trade.

he could also be a trade deadline move which might be more likely. Then you can bring up Falk to finish the season if they're not in the playoff picture.

The other scenario would be he plays well enough to be re-signed and they move bogo so they dont have to protect him. Then the search for the other d-man would be for a right handed shot which could work out nicely.

McCabe-Risto

Kulikov-player x

Gives you a nice balance.

I agree I just don't see Murray moving Bogo and that would be difficult with his cap hit.

It's hard to trade for a #1 dman and in free agency next year there is just Shattenkirk and not sure we would be on his list. I think for the future Guhle is that dman to play with Risto.

If we do resign kulikov I wonder if they'll wait till after July 1st. Leave him unprotected for the expansion draft as he is a UFA. I doubt LV would take Kulikov due to his impending UFA status and him not having to sign there even if picked

I would think if Kulikov goes to free agency our chances of signing him are greatly diminished.

Bylsma might play Kuli-Bogo and McCabe-Risto in camp, see how those pairings develop.

Actually makes the most sense if his plan is to reduce ristos minutes.

That in turn might just help his Defensive game more than anything...having a fresh Risto out there would be better for everyone. The down side is you have to hope the 2nd pair can pick up some of those minutes without blowing up.

Yep, that's what I would go with. Then Gorges/Franson for the 3rd pair. It's the depth we have at D that is a concern. Bogo, Gorges and Franson can be injury prone and the first call up at this point would probably be Falk or Nelson. We need another dman, a vet ideally.

I think over 82 games you'd get more out of Guhle/Nelson than Gorges/Franson.

Agreed. Gorges is on his last legs and Franson just flat out blows.

I still want a vet dman for depth.

If they're serious about the playoffs this year they should give guhle, nelson other rookies a real opportunity instead of guaranteeing spots to aging vets.

May only add up to 2 extra wins but could be the difference between 8th and 9th.

I want to watch Guhle, Nelson and Bailey at camp.

I also think Murray might offer a PTO to a dman and maybe a winger. Nobody special but I kind of expect it.

@homie

I want to back this jays team, really do. Way too many strikeouts from the hitters though. Read somewhere they're 9-41 when they score 4 runs or less and playoffs are all about that small ball.

- Sabresfan-365

bullpen ehhh

contact hitting ehhh

they are good, not special unless they go yard often

still much better than the past 20 years

Not making this up, but last night I had a dream with no real plot that I remember, but all the characters were Hockeybuzz regulars....there was Sgt. Schultz (Der Keyser), Homie the Clown (the actual character from In Living Color), Nathan Gerbe was there, the Tin Man, the Pope (John Paul the 2nd...he's it for me) for Pope of Pucks, Rob Ford was there, Frank Zappa (Zoot Allures), Great Gazoo, whoever MHP is was there, Batman in a big flowing cape, a guy who introduced himself as Sbroad24, a giant pickle, a giant banana, a talking Goose....and after I woke up all the real people (you guys and gals) were standing around me and I looked around and told everyone about my dream, saying, "and you were there, and you, and you..." just like Dorothy at the end of the Wizard of OZ. Except I did not say there's no place like home, because I was sleeping in a tent in Friendship, NY.

Camping trip cut short cuz my daughter got sick this morning.
