Sabres 1st 41 games: 15-22-4, 93 GF, 113 GA, 1225 SOG, 20.00% PP, 77.32% PK
Sabres 2nd 41 games: 20-14-7, 108 GF, 109 GA, 1193 SOG, 17.74% PP, 86.78% PK
Sabres in the 2nd half of the year had a 94 point pace, a near even GA/GF, and a better PK. The biggest change looks to be the fact that they scored 15 more goals and gave up 5 less so they were able to get offense without opening up the game all that much for the other team. Interestingly, they had less shots in the 2nd half, only about 30 less, but that means they weren't just shooting more.
Take this info as you will, just found it interesting. If I read into it at all it looks like the team learned to play together, learned to play the system, or just grew as the year went on. If that happens to start the year they could be good. Score more, win more. - Zschalberg
i thought the quality of competition was much weaker in the second half. didnt we have to run the gauntlet for the first 2 months? yes they played better, but it helps when the best teams in hockey arent putting the screws to you.

Few people have pointed out, our schedule was incredibly easy the 2nd half of the year |

Young guys got better.
Everyone learned the system.
This year we add talent.
We will have 98 points at year end. If we're in it at TDL and make a big acquisition, we'll have 100.
Yes I know there will be questions about Sugar Ray, but he is going to blow people away like Neuvirth, Lindback and CJ did. - SomeoneGerman

Can't discount that other teams also go better, though. We'll be better than last year, that's for sure. With a defense that hasn't regressed at a minimum and has at max switched its aging vet in the 2nd slot with a younger player and an offense with sophomore Jack, Sam, and the addition of KO we should have a net positive. I don't know if I'm saying 100 points but I like the optimism. |

BOGO also looked like a completely different player once he got healthy. Things were definitely trending up - no reason to thinkt hat wouldn't continue now that the kids are a year older and we added to the lineup.

Some teams got better.
Other teams got worse.
Year over year, 98 points will put a team in the playoffs. We'll get there. |

1st half: 6 games against the East's top 4 teams, 8 against the West's top 4 teams, 1 game against Toronto
6 total points earned in those 14 games against the top teams
2nd half: 7 games against the East's top 4 teams, 0 against the West's top 4 teams, 3 games against Toronto
5 total points earned in those 7 games against the top teams
Grand total of 11 points earned in 21 games against the top 4 teams in both conferences. |

5 in 7 looks better than 6 in 14, ya?
No doubt we need to get better but good teams also stock up on points from teams that aren't in the top 4. For us the main thing is we need to win games against teams that we should be better than by this time. You need to win games against Toronto, Columbus, New Jersey, maybe teams like Ottawa, Carolina. Then you need to at least split with teams like Boston and Detroit and Philly and maybe the Islanders who aren't much better than us and will be competing for those final spots. Then you steal some points against the top teams. Take care of the games that we should win and try and take some of the ones we should lose and we should have a good chance. |

Montreal, Tampa, Florida I think are all still better than us. As long as Price is healthy MTL has the advantage, Tampa is just stacked, and Florida looks great too. I say we're competing for that WC spot. |

HAhaha i wouldnt be surprised... not saying i want him but imo Girardi isn't as bad as the media makes him out to be... Similar to gorges the stay at home D men get crushed by the analytic driven media.
Jay Mckee was a huge piece to our glory years because he spent the entire time preventing shots from getting through. Always from for one of those player in the lineup |

I think we are better than MTL for the most part.
While I think Boston is on a steep decline, they still have a competitive roster, same with Detroit. |
