In the old days it was luck. Benning lives at the rink on the road. I think his hard work eliminates the the luck factor.

I think Juolevi won't be the only NHL picked by Canucks this year.

I remember listening to 1040 when they had JB on for an interview. Sekeres jokingly asked him:

"Where are ya today Jim." Knowing he was out scouting.

JB told him he was in Waterloo Iowa. You could hear JB's excitement and passion for scouting, as he told him where he was, had been and going next.

Next year, Sekeres brought up that interview, putting 2 and 2 together, realized he was scouting Brock. A player JB stole at 23.

Let him do his thing. As long as that thing doesn't involve trading for Kane.

Unlike last year when I said WTF at the draft , this year I learnt to trust Benning . So when I see Lockwood drafted as high as he was and ranked 163 , I was calm.

I also think Sutter and Eriksson as core now that they will be here 5-6 years. I also see Boeser , even if he hasn't played yet.

True. (sad face)

but he was traded for JVR.

I see the canucks cracking the top 20 in 3-4 years. Maybe.

No but they retained him to support their rebuild rather than moving him for an underwhelming return a year or two ago. I think they're handling their rebuild far better than the Oilers did by keeping JVR, Komarov, and Bozak around they've provided a solid support group for their forwards similar to what Edmonton did with Hemsky, Horcoff, and Penner. I don't think the Leafs' vets will have the same problems the Oilers' did (injury, age, and laziness respectively).

Andersen might shore up their goaltending, but it's not something I'd count on or mark as different from the Oil as they had Dubnyk.

As far as their drafting goes, their 2015 draft was stellar from a value perspective. This past draft they took a concerning lean into the size and grit categories (much like I saw from Edmonton when they wasted 2nd round picks on Musil and Moroz). Hopefully for their sake it's an anomaly as far as draft strategy.

They should probably have pursued another top-4 Dman this offseason, but having a legit top pairing guy in Rielly in place early on in their rebuild will undoubtedly be the big difference-maker.

They did - bringing in Zeitsev I think will prove to be a very smart move. He's 24, has been a KHL all-star for a couple of years and had an outstanding showing at the worlds, making the tournament team. He seems to have a decent balance between offense and D, has decent size, and is fluent in English (which obviously helps).

He also has a Chemistry relevant name which makes me like him even more

lol thx for the insight bud…

Maybe worry about the Leafs breaking out of a 50 year rebuild and we'll worry about where the Nucks finish.

So Tuesdays have turned into the day that Leaf fans tell us the proper way to rebuild. I guess that still makes it 'Bi-Polar Tuesdays'.

Oh right JVR. He's done so much for you guys. Another career ruined by being a Leaf. Can't wait for the rumours that leafs are trading him for a 1st.

Pretty sure the vast majority of us all here don't have another 50 years to implement Leafs rebuild status' here.

You'd think after all these years they'd finally developed the perfect formula. Unfortunately, signing another back up goalie to be the starter, and signing Brandon Prust is not a formula for success.

Back to the drawing board.

Well, it's nice to see a management group making smart moves and, perhaps more importantly, actually having a plan.

No guarantees of course, but a damn sight better than what we endured with JFJ/Burke/Nonis

No, RealityChecker posted an old blog to point out something Vantel said last summer. In the blog, Phucker had some commentary and VanHockeyGuy had a Taj tweet. Naturally, I had to flag Reality twice and then flag VanHockeyGuy's next post. It was the right thing to do.

The only plan I see is getting lucky and landing the first overall pick when a generational talent was available. Other than that, not really sure about the rest of the plan.
