In the old days it was luck. Benning lives at the rink on the road. I think his hard work eliminates the the luck factor.

I think Juolevi won't be the only NHL picked by Canucks this year.

- VANTEL

I think Benning is a tremendous drafter, but, it's not a fool-proof system. Guys like Kesler and Cory Schneider were 23rd & 26th, but so was White, Schreoder, Gaunce etc.

I don't know what you mean about Juolevi?

I was thinking I had my quota today.

it is actually for the kid going into grade 12. it is still sealed in the box, he isn't in a rush to open it. I can't understand it.

it's funny how much you've changed your mind. last off season you went apoplectic during draft weekend saying that the draft picks sucked (and that the rebuild hadn't even started). the meltdown was monumental.

now you're already placing boeser in a feature role.

my point is, let's not be so hasty to label players busts or core pieces before they actually prove themselves to be.

also, the fact that benning appears to be great at drafting should mean that higher picks are even more valuable. a high pick isn't only valuable in the first round. it gives you good opportunities in every round to pick up overlooked guys.

He's drinking much better wine these days, he's consuming less antifreeze and his mind is clearing.

I believe he means Abols and Lockwood+ have a chance at making the NHL.

Oh....well now that you say that it makes sense but he didn't type that

PS: for the record I'd be hugely surprised if any of this years, or last years, picks make the team.

I can label GMs or players however I want. I don't need someone to tell me what I think. Since last years draft we picked up Sutter who I was hailing beforehand. We picked up Gudbranson who I was hailing beforehand .

I seen that we had too much youth.

Is there anything els?

Now if you don't mind I will continue talking with people I like talking to

Before you label as a great drafter you may want to listen to Reality Checker first. Apparently he doesn't like labelling

I don't watch enough jr hockey, barely any actually, to have an opinion that isn't influenced by media and such. but I'm hoping Juolevi pans out. and Boeser too.

err... when you say 'make the team' do you mean ever or this season.

he can always talk to you. this is an opinion from a noted talent evaluator.
As it was put on twitter .

Canucks were not good enough last year and have had a very underwhelming draft.

this is exactly how I see it also.

I am in no way a draft expert, but this is how I view it.

1st round . Never heard of the guy
2nd round. Nothing
3 rd round . Trade a younger goalie for someone I never heard of.
Every round after, never heard of the guy.

Sorry I am not as thrilled as the rest of you

- VANTEL

this was the day after boeser was drafted. funny how this is exactly the same "criticism" that you cited when saying that the leafs, oilers etc had bad drafts. that and how the draft after the first round sucked b/c you "never heard of the guy."

I don't think Boeser will play in Utica . He spent two years developing in NCAA

I'm thinking another development year will be great for him and he'll make the team the following year as well. But we've gotta be patient and let the process happen.

PS: by next year I meant this coming season.

We need to get the season going. Then we will know what we have and what we need.

I do expect a big trade before the season starts.

I have faith in our top three lines , the D and the goalies. We still need change though. Every year upgrade.

- VANTEL

Like we've harped all along. We need a 2nd line that can produce. Put less pressure on the Sedins. If not, we're in trouble like in the past few years. So far I guess Sutter is 2C...who are the wingers go to be? A trade will determine.
