Vantel, this is a direct quote from Walshy....he likes that he feels more intelligent in here.

What an idiot...at least people know why he is truly here now |

I've got into it with him a few times as well, I still think he's a pretty good guy.
Edit: and for the record, I think they have three of the top seven prospects as well, in terms of pure skill. I would love to have Marner, Matthews & Nylander in our system, without getting rid of any of our kids. - LeftCoaster
I don't have a problem with that at all. My point is there is no clear definition of what a prospect is so how could there be a list. You ask 100 people I bet you get 100 different answers.
Very few Dmen or Goalies get mentioned in a top 10 list yet almost every poster will agree you can't win a cup without a top 2 Dman |

When guys who claim to be Canucks fans starting posting leafs related material or commenting on leafs goings on or someone expresses interest in knowing how freddie andersen will do this season in net for the leafs.... then it's fair game for a leafs fan and their dog to show up... - kaptaan
No it's not. This is a hockey blog and all hockey related subjects are fair game. The Leafs are the laughing stock of the league and occasionally Canucks fans will want to discuss this. |

If you are fed up with the Leafs, why bring it up. Vancouver fans are the ones who bring the Leafs into their own thread. I would think if you were fed up, you wouldn't be talking about them? - Aetherial
I don't ever bring the Leafs up but they are a polarizing subject in that they've been so bad for so long and they've tried multiple ways to rebuild. Currently they're on the tank to rebuild mode, for some it's worked and for some that haven't been fortunate enough to select a generational talent it hasn't worked.
It's an interesting hockey discussion to be honest. |

and if leaf fans aren't the caricature painted by some posters on this thread, they wouldn't come here to confirm it.
but yeah, bottom line.... we all suck. yay!!!! |

Vantel, you know I love you man, but has a Leafs fan ever initiated a conversation here about our prospects except to troll, and I throw out the trolling because it works both ways.
Leafs fans respond to Leafs discussion. From what I have seen, Leafs discussion on Vancouver threads starts with Vancouver fans. Many of you guys are obsessed with the Leafs. That can't be good. - Aetherial
Do Canuck fans respond within 30 seconds to any Canuck related comment in your blog? No they don't. Walshy needs to get a life. Perhaps a job? a girlfriend? |

I bring it up because in the last two weeks I have seen 3 different lists posted by idiots out East telling me that the team that was the worst in the league last year had the best coaching, the best management and now the best prospects. Oh yeah everything the Canucks have is garbage.
That is why I comment. |

Over the past few years in particular, it's hard to argue this. Maybe the Oilers?
That said, most Leaf fans are very optimistic with the new management and young players in the prospect cupboard. At this moment of course it means jack poop, but it's at least having a plan and following through on it, something that hasn't been seen in a long time...
Also, Blue Jays and Raptors |

I think with the cap, tanking has become the only way to get elite talent.
I think all of this has not helped the game to be honest.

No doubt the organization was the laughing stock, for a good long while.
I think it would pretty unfair to say they were now. |

5 spots left in the hockey pool...
Lums is sending me pms to get in. He promises he will take Matthews first round. I wonder in how many Toronto based pools this would happen... - Scooby_Doo

I truly believe there is merit to trying to select high in a cap world, thus it is an interesting hockey debate. A lot of media bring this up, so we comment on it. It doesn't just "come out of the blue", it's usually driven by media opinions or comments so guys here discuss it. |

funny thing is that this post could have been cut and pasted from the last 2 regime changes for the leafs.

It gets you elite talent, but that doesn't necessarily mean an elite team. If you don't have competent management and more good luck than bad luck all you get is 82 games of watching that elite talent spin their tires. |

I think the reason the Leafs are brought up so often is because the teams are in a similar position. There are many Canuck fans here that want to strip the team to bare bones, flip guys on PTO's and 1 year contracts for middle round picks and start from scorched earth. Then there are those that are buying into the Kool-aid that Benning/Linden are serving by remaining competitive.
The debate and criticism goes: "Well it hasnt work for the Oilers, but the Leafs are getting praised for it."; "Media says the Leafs are doing great but Vancouver sucks... man I hate how the media poops on our team even though we are getting younger NHL bodies and replenishing our prospect pool"; etc. etc.
Basically its two passionate fanbases who want their teams to succeed, but are keeping an eye on the other's method of building and comparing the two within their threads. I dont care if we get visitors, it can bring good discussion, but the part that annoys us the most is when commentors pile on the media-driven dialogue that Vancouver is a clueless franchise, when in reality it was a mess and untangling it takes time |

all the back and forth is just killing time.
the media does drive a lot of the discussion.
what I'd like to see is some projections from them on when they believe each team could be competitive.
also, with the way the media supports the tank, or doesn't support the Vancouver approach, how many teams can simultaneously and effectively tank and rebuild at the same time? |
