Pretty much the same. The reason I asked is because at the time Canuck fans were livid. - Misterbator
He was a first round pick, I guess that is something. people hoped he could be a top 6 scoring winger. but he is undersized and we also have Sven and Rodin, so others maybe preferred a winger with more size.
and we still don't know what we have in Granlund.
all these prospects are is potential, so to move one out before seeing how that translates is disappointing for many... same as the disappointment with moving McCann. but I look forward to seeing what Gudbranson brings to the club.

In a year, neither fan base will care or remember the trade. |

I think it was a blunder. I think he was trying to add something to the team right away while still trying to stay young. Gave away upside. - golfingsince
Perhaps, I don't think either player will amount to jack though. It was his strangest trade imo |

That line will be fun to watch.
Second. Absolutely not. He's really not that good. - RickJames77
I'm hoping Sedins/Eriksson provide some of what we are missing. Having Hansen on that line for another year is redundant.
On E.Kane I for one think he would be worth the risk but would have to come super cheap. Don't wanna move JV for him as some rumours have suggested but id we could send Spizza + packing for E.Kane it's a deal Benning would be stupid to pass on.

Same as when it happened, it was unnecessary but likely wont make much difference in the long haul.
Hard to really evaluate until we see how Granlund/Shink do this year. My biggest issue was always that trading Shink really hurt Utica. - belcherbd
This could be true. What was the knock on Shinkaruk? I have to say the kid has an amazing shooting ability—especially on the backhand. Nothing ever stood out to me with Granlund...like ever except for world juniors. |

It was an interesting trade. You don't often see similarly ranked prospects being swapped like that. |

not that granlund has (or had) the seeming upside of shink but granlund has pretty much out produced him at every level.
the knock on shink is his size and willingness to go to the hard areas to score. kinda like mayson raymond. you remember him right? |

looks like the Leafs aren't going to have any trouble protecting everybody who needs to be protected. - 1979AD
Ya it's a pretty fun tool, I posted my mock LV roster a while ago when the Pens blogger did his series on it.
Killhorn Perreault Atkinson
Beleskey Coyle Rodin
Lee Pageau Bennett
Roussel Richardson Maroon
Cousins, Danault, Hartman, Di Giuseppe, Stephenson
Bouwmeester Green
Jokipakka Ellis
Dillon Depres
Mcllrath, Forbot, Pysyk Carrick
Murray
Picard
Ullmark
LV should be able to get a decent team from draft but the biggest thing I took from looking at the list is that teams will be smart to go into the draft with the ability to take on some contracts from other teams trying to get rid of players. |

Didn't someone on here post the other day that Kane said he didn't want to play in Vancouver and he didn't think much of the forwards we had?
If any of that is true, it seals the deal for me not wanting him here.
I want a player that wants to play here. a player that wants to come in and make an impact.
I hope for Kane's sake he gets to play for Vegas. someplace where he wants to be and he can sink or swim and run out of excuses.

Shink is soft and fragile. Essentially he was traded because management thought his scoring would never translate to the NHL. He scored from the perimeter and on the PP. Time will tell. A bizarre trade from the Canucks perspective although I don't think anyone will be mentioning it in a few years. |

A bit soft and needs top 6 minutes to progress which he wasn't going to get in Van this season. Plus the vast majority of his AHL points were PP and his 5/5 play was a bit suspect. If the Flames can provide him top 6 minutes/linemates will be interesting to see how he turns out for you guys.
Granlund had better AHL numbers for the most part as had a bunch of NHL games under his belt and we were in dire need of a 4LC last year...so the trade made a bit of sense for both clubs...but many here were high on Shinks' upside which we were yet to see. |

The knock from mgmt was that the didn't think his scoring would translate.
The knock on him from Utica was that he needed to be engaged more. Honestly I see him very similar as Baertschi was when he was still in your system. If Hunter can adapt his game I think he will be an NHLer as he definitely has a good nose for the net.

It was a while ago.....can't remember my reasoning for taking Carick... maybe he was the youngest of eligible players?
I think I protected Morgan, Gardner and Marincin, kadri, JVR, Bozak, Komorov, Rychel,Brown... somebody else I'm missing. |

exactly. which is why the trade was perplexing from a canucks' point of view.
i don't see much impact from either. granlund will be a bottom 6 (most likely) if he is to stick. while shink will be top 6 if he sticks, it is less likely he will (due to how his game has progressed and the flames' talent in front of him).
