Tennessee almost lost to Appalachian State at home last night. That was interesting to watch.
I don't understand how a team that has been wallowing in mediocrity for the past 6 or 7 years all of a sudden gets vaulted up to #9 to start a season. |

Irrelevant - Unimportant.
31-0 Lions.
2nd and 3rd O-Line units were terrible. QBs and RBs couldn't do anything. Only thing to be a bit concerned about is the O-line depth but if it's that big of a deal I'd expect us to pick someone up after cuts |

To be honest, that is exactly why I was apprehensive about Okposo as the "consolation prize" for Stamkos. Okposo may or may not have been the best FA candidate available, but to me, it was the equivalent of winning a $60 50/50 drawing at an elementary school fundraiser. - buffalofan19
they did, however, fill a need at rw...an argument could be made that despite the superstardom of stamkos--whom everyone would agree is a standout player that no one in sabreland would shun--the pecking order remains intact for the team...sometimes loading up with too many stars can be counterproductive
that said, it was a fairly steep price for an extensive term that may or may not be an anchor down the road |

Preseason game . I remember the super bowl years when we lost all the preseason games. |

If you can get productive players (I believe he will produce again) like Girgensons on cheap deals, then you can afford to overpay for an Okposo.
Only issue is Girgs with a bounce back year could turn into a 3-4 mil player.
I have a feeling this is his last year here either way |

Like he mentioned earlier, it was pretty comical watching them line up in the wishbone for 4 plays in a row and get stopped on 4th down. |

If he has a break out year , why get rid of him? What would it cost to replace him?
Tough questions
Edit: oh yes, trade him for picks |

I knew something seemed a little off about Steve Tasker. |

I think it becomes a tough choice, they will have committed to Eichel, ROR, Reinhart, and Oshie long term. |

So were do we draw the line and have 4th line scrubs on the cheap. Those are the players everyone wants to get rid of for better players . Better players cost . Gotta make sure we are not paying a high price for no production. |

Which will easily go back on the season after. Eichel's current deal will be done. Reinhart will need a new deal next year (I think). And there will always be holes to fill. |

yup, with close to another $10m coming off the books after that...plus, hopefully the cap will have risen to add another $4-5m in space
edit: reinhart and Eichel both in 2018 |

So would Girgs be more or less likely to be traded with his contract? Or was this a 'show me' statement by Murray and you'll get a longer term deal next year if you perform? |

all depends on what you think he is...$1.15m for a top-nine, two-way player who might help in the top-six is a pretty good deal imo |
