I'm not entirely sold either but it does appear more complete/competitive on paper than any Oiler lineup I can recall in the last 7 years.

I agree 100%.... I think between the Hall trade and the fact that Yak is still on this team leaves me questioning the teams direction.

Part of me would really love to see a Muppet movie directed by MDW. I'm guessing it will be rated R?

I was cool with the Hall trade myself, but I think the biggest hickup with Yak is that we'd really get (frank) all for him. And as poopty as he's been he is still the 2nd best RW this club has unless Kassian or Puljujarvi really step up. I'm guessing Chiarelli is going to keep him until his stock rises (still possible this year yet unlikely I think) or ship him off for whatever he can get at the TDL. Not optimal either way.

Exactly, Hall got you nowhere....not saying it's his fault...but eventually you need to change the ingredients. I don't think anyone knows how good Larsson can be yet.
- Garnie

I think that is exactly the point. No one knows what Larsson will turn into and us Oiler fans have been down this road with too many dmen already. Nurse, Rienhart, Schultz... They just added another prospect when the team really needed a proven power play quarter back.

As for trading Hall simply for change that is crazy. Lots of first round draft picks didn't take their team to the cup in the first couple years. Ovechkin, Crosby, Kane, Stamkos, Tavares... Their team didn't just suddenly get better but these are all franchise players now and their teams are a lot better after developing them.

I am okay with trading Hall, I just don't think the Oilers got the value he is worth. I think Larsson could have been had at a much lower price and if not I would have rather seen Vatenen, Shattenkirk, Barrie, Brodin.... They didn't have to trade their top producer. They have depth at center and there is need. Or even Eberle would have made more sense.

No matter what Larsson turns out to be, will he ever have the same value as Hall does? Hall is a top 10 two way winger in the game. No way Larsson is ever going to be even a top 20 defender in the league but if he was, its still better to keep your top guy at this point. Everyone sees the Oilers glaring lack of skilled defense but they also aren't putting the puck in the net. You simply have to score and Hall brought that to any line he was put on. He doesn't have to play with McDavid like Maroon does to get points. If NJ was only willing to trade for Hall then look else where. There are still dmen being shopped that are more proven and can be had for less.

I'm not sold on what Chia has built.
- LittleRickyV2

I agree. Seems like the team got bigger at the expense of talent. In my opinion we have been sold for years on the fact that the rebuilding would eventually pay off. That our collection of young talent was going to be developed and then the team could start competing for the cup. Just when it started to look bright; decent starting goalie, McDavid and some chemistry with character guys like Maroon; the Oilers trade their most developed player from the rebuild. For a player that on paper looks exactly like Reinhart did last summer.

1) In what (frank)ing way is Larsson a prospect? He has already played 270+ NHL games.

2) Please name them. Include what it will cost to acquire them and in what ways they are proven to be better than Larsson in both performance and contract value.

And yet I fear a list would be given regardless. It would go something like...

Arizona has had a busy offseason collecting prospects and I believe they'd be willing to part with Pronger if we offered them Puljujarvi...

He still seems to think Brodin is superior to Larsson even though he's worse in pretty much every capacity conceivable.
