2015/16 finish: 24th
Scoring: can't find it but BAD
D: 16th

The key to this team making the playoffs is not the D, it's winning by scoring more. Our focus should be Kane, Moulson, Ennis, Grigs, lesser so Foligno.

- Der Kaiser

We finished 24th in scoring with 199 but we added another 20 goal scorer in Okposo, which would technically put us tied for 15th last year with St. Louis. Then you add in a hopefully healthy Ennis to the 3rd line or maybe even second (depending on Kane) who can put up 20, if he plays Bylsma's system and again is healthy. IMO this team needs to worry about goaltending(Lehner) before anything now, and then getting a good 6th man to play with Gorges (maybe Nelson because you can't trade Franson) because I have no faith in Franson.

There could be tweaks to the pairings I suggested & penalties will alter the mix for the PP & PK. Franson will see 2nd unit power play time & Georges will see 1st unit penalty killing time at least based on last seasons TOI.

By TOI/GP last year Georges was 3rd in Buf with 20:27, SH TOI/GP 2:16, 2nd only to Risto at 2:38.

They maybe slow but they will see the other teams 3rd & 4th lines & not be seriously out matched. It doesn't make sense to me to play Georges or Franson on a higher pairing reducing the roles of the other 4. The whole group will get jumbled at times but all in all this is a pretty solid D & certainly capable of competing.

By 3rd pairings in the NHL it's better than many. vancouver, NJ, Dal, Ott, Tor certainly.

Too rich for a team weak on wingers IMO.

It would be interesting but I think Nylander in a year or two plays a bigger impact in a winning Sabres team than Faulk...

- Stripes77

That's the big question isn't it. If it was pick 8 straight up I think I would do it. I think long term its easier to fix the wings via trades, signings and later picks than it is to find a high end player on a great cap hit

in 17-18 you'd be looking at

McCabe-Risto
Kulikov-Faulk
Guhle-Nelson?

Thats very good imo.

If it's pick 8 you do it and don't think twice.

Wingers are easily acquired. Especially when you are Tim Murray and will give someone whatever they want for him

Agreed but if the ask for fowler was 8th I have to imagine the ask for faulk was significantly higher. Not like Carolina had to move him.

Edit: As long as he liked them in ottawa, right?

So you think we re-sign Kulikov? I wouldn't mind if we did. I would hope Guhle will be ready for NHL duty in 17/18. And where is Bogo?

My guess

McCabe-Risto
Kuli-Bogo
Guhle-Nelson
Gorges

If they had added faulk my guess is bogo would have been gone. Expansion draft, cap space, ice time. He'd be gone in that scenario.

general fanager shows Bogo and Okposo protected for the expansion draft. They would need to re-sign Faulk which shouldn't be an issue. Lots of moving parts for the D for 17/18, gotta think if we can't re-sign Kuli we'll be looking at getting somebody, a vet preferably.

Im talking about Justin Faulk, signed through 2020. If they brought him in theyd need to protect him and since Bogo automatically takes up one spot, cap space and playing time on the right side he'd probably be moved.

This damn Chip Kelly. How in the hell is Kaepernick a backup to Blsine Gabbert. I can't wait for @FirstTake on Monday. I just can't wait.

I realize seidenberg was a bit of a tire fire last year, but I wouldn't mind him in a depth role. Used sparingly, maybe there's a bit of that magic left.

I'm a bit confused here. Justin Faulk only signed a 1 year contract, how is he signed till 2020? And are you also saying you would rather have a journey dman than Bogo?

Facts mean nothing here don't you know ?

I think it was me, you and DD that mentioned Wiz on a number of occasions.

- SABRES 89

I did too, but guys female dog about Lehner getting hurt. Wiz has played like 8 games in the last 3 years.

Edit: Obviously I'm being facetious, but the guy gets hurt a lot.

Yeah, that was just unlucky, but he's had knee/leg issues before too. He's never played a full season, but he's played over 70 a few times. It's just the times he only plays 30, or in the case of last year, one shift.

I was first on the give Wiz a shot train. But I wouldn't be lining up to trade assets for him
