Laine is going to have some good teammates in Winnpeg.

How many goals does he get this year... 35? 40? I'm going with 37g

- Aetherial

If he scores 25 he should be happy.

Laine is not considered a very fast player, takes a few strides for him to get going but he compensates by being very good at protecting the puck with his huge frame and having the ability to make a killer shot in a split second.

Good for Matthews on that play I guess.

no doubt, both are going to be great players, and I am actually glad Laine is in the West and will only play the Leafs 2 games a season.

I don't think they will stack it like this for 5v5 but on the PP, Ehlers-Scheifle-Laine will be deadly.

Wonder how much more Laine is gonna grow. He could be like 6"6 next year like 220lbs or so

I follow hockey of all types, from High School to NHL an even KHL games. I'm a little more hockey obsessed then the average American for sure and I have to argue this. The only places I saw people putting Matthews over Eichel in the " same draft" scenario was fan message boards and a couple lesser known bloggers who were looking for attention and to stir up some hits. The mainstream media have all either said nothing or in the case of McKenzie said flat out Eichel would have still been 2nd.

Via Bob McKenzie twitter:
If Matthews was two days older, he'd have been 2015 eligible, would've gone 3rd overall to ARI after McDavid/Eichel: https://t.co/pEW6xzABUN

That said I think Matthews is gonna be a hell of a player and I really look forward to him and Eichel going at it for years to come. But as a Sabre fan I am glad we got Eichel and wouldn't change that outcome at all. Unless of course it meant getting McDavid cause regardless of what other Sabers fans might say and think, he is definitely a superior player.

I am really surprised by these low estimates. I have to figure over 30, at least.

I'm always cautious when projecting 18 year olds first seasons.... there are always exceptions but usually, even high end prospect don't do much better than 60 points in their first year... so 25 goals 30 assist for Laine would be a very good start to a very good career for him.

I expect more or less the same kind of production from Matthews. Good for them if they surprise me.

Anyone notice the ads at the ACC. It look like the board have been green screened in order to overlay the ads.

They digitally flash over all the ads. I only noticed the Air Canada one and then when the game was over the whole boards turned into "North America Wins".
