Good morning all.

My take from last nights game is, we should be pretty excited for Morgan Rielly. He was the best D on the ice for either team. More to it than being on the scoresheet, he skated or cleared the puck out of danger all night long. Poise.

- LeafMan

Rielly looked great but Cotton Parayko really impressed me live and up close. The kid is huge and he can skate and move the puck with ease. He's gonna be a force in St. Louis.

Laine looks very one dimensional to me. He will have to get over that to be a quality player in the NHL. Never even noticed him until the PP.

Maybe we're all looking at this equation the wrong way.

One 19 year old millionaire gets to live in Edmonton.

One 19 year old millionaire gets to live in Buffalo.

One 19 year old millionaire gets to live in Toronto.

So from the perspective of what prospect got picked by the better team/city....Matthews wins hands down.

Matthews is better. Boom.

I get that, I am just saying he has to work on the D side of his game.

They are all good players. Glad we were able to get Matthews. But all 3 are and will be very good players for years. I guess we will know more in April.

Not sure why this even gets talked about, who cares. Where they would have hypothetically got drafted in a different year doesn't matter and won't change what they will become as NHL players. It's really close and pretty hard to say who will be a better player at this point
- ClarksonDavid

I think the more important thing to Leaf fans is whether or not we feel we're getting the best possible player with each draft pick, that we can.

And I'd say they've done that, for the most part. As well as being pretty fortunate that the player we got dropped to where they got him at.

For Nylander, I don't think there is a player in the draft taken after him I'd rather have. And quite a few ahead of him I'd rather have. I personally would have to think about whether I'd rather have either Sam, or Draisatl. Ekblad, well, that's a no brainer.

Marner, I'd definitely take him ahead of Strome, no doubt. But Hanifin, I think I'd probably take him.

Matthews, nope, without a shadow of a doubt, he's the exact piece the Leafs needed.

The funny thing is, you can even go back to Morgan Rielly, and the statements Burke made about them taking Morgan Rielly number 1 overall, from that draft..... True maybe? Hampus Lindholm and Galchenyuk are the only 2 possibilities. Personally, I'd go Rielly over Galchenyuk. But Lindholm, while arguable, would probably be number 1. Lindholm was the easy answer for a couple of years, but Rielly has made an argument for him this past season.

Idk he made a nice rush and seen some nice stick handling he also crushed someone behind the net too. He's going to be a player, even if he is one dimensional his dimension is something he's really good and and a pretty big part of the game..

Absolutely agree. It will be nice to see some rivalry between the 3 for a lot of years to come.

The little dangle he did in warm up before the game started. Stopped the announcers mid sentence.. very cool move.

Oh I don't think there is a shadow of a doubt Matthews is better. By a wide margin.

I think he's just saying that the kid will do fine in the NHL.

That is good, because the entire city of Toronto is terrified of him.

I really enjoy how he feels like Canada doesn't like him. I mean what is not to like about a ginger who looks like Daryl Katz' son and seems to have a real DB attitude about him.

During the game, he did a little curl and drag shot in tight and close to the D's feet and almost got short side....the release was crazy.

A lot of highlights this year: Matthews, Marner, Nylander........

In reality, we all know if we combined the last two drafts the order would/should be:

Laine
McDavid
Senyshyn
Vatrano
Matthews
Eichel
Strome

Finally, someone who uses their brain around here.

I am really hoping this becomes the top combination in the future (hopefully sooner rather than later).

Previous to seeing Matthews play in this WC, I thought that those two would likely be better spread out in the lineup, but now I really think Matthews has the exact skill set and ability to see/read the game at Marner's level/speed that they would complement each other extremely well and make opposing teams look silly. Then Nylander can slot into the 2c role once Bozak is shipped out.
