Because endlessly debating a 3rd round pick from 2 years ago is just so riveting - BiggE
It's actual hockey talk which makes it much better than the normal boring Summer talk, to no one's fault. If a conversation doesn't suit me, I just scroll on by like I've done most of the Summer, rather than post a remark. |

The funniest part about Ghoul is we might have 15 players now and in the future who project as better bottom 6/4th line players than him. |

Or he might wind up the best out of all of them! Wouldn't that be funny. Just so I know, how far into the future are we talking about?

Don't you mean spilled Duclair's?
Keep in mind, as much as people like to say, "We could have had - jmatchett383[insert player] in the [number] round but we decided to take [insert player] istead," that as long as the pick is outside of the first 2 rounds, every single NHL team passed on drafting that player at least once. So when you compare Goulbourne to Duclair, keep in mind that New York also selected Pavel Buchnevich before Duclair.
Nah, I don't think the Flyers would have taken Duclair due to character concerns.
http://www.tsn.ca/masters...duke-of-broadway-1.158539
But going by this Bjorkstrand was ranked 51 on the Flyers draft board but they made an exception to take Goulbourne at 72 instead.

It is impossible to pick player A vs. player B or C and say we should've had that guy, but it is not impossible to fault the strategy. It is also obvious that the Flyers have changed their strategy.
I think going for anything less than a home run is pointless though, as you can find a grinder like Ryan White or a skill guy that hasn't panned out like Sam Gagner any day of the week during the offseason. - YuenglingJagr
You need a couple guys in a draft who are high floor players without top 6 ceilings just for roster depth. But make them true 3rd line ceiling talents perhaps like Fazleev, Bunnaman, etc.. That's ok, and I am a subscriber to home run theory too. But
a good rule of drafting: never pick someone whose absolute ceiling is 4th liner/tweener...sub to replacement level players are surprisingly not hard to replace!
But you hit the nail on the ass. In a vacuum, one pick making the NHL is preferable over one not. But what if you do this every year targeting no ceiling "safe" (questionably) players? In consecutive drafts, if you go 7/10 taking Ghoul players becoming NHL'ers, is that preferable to going 1/10 and taking a Gaudreau or Ghost or Benn or the countless other mid to late round stars? No it's not. Drafting and draft strategy are not done in a vacuum like some here believe. |

I'm okay with the Morin pick, but I REALLY wanted them to take Pulock. - jmatchett383
It would be quite the twist if we end up trading Sanheim for Pulock. NYI are in a tough spot for the expansion draft with five dmen who are worth protecting, so they have an incentive to move one for a prospect who's exempt from the ED. And the Flyers currently only have two non-UFA dmen worth protecting in Ghost and Gudas. |

Who believes that draft strategy is done in a vacuum? You could also go 0/10 swinging for the fences. |

Sanheim is a better prospect than Pulock. The Isles are in a jam and are going to lose a top d man. Why would the Flyers help get them out of their bind so they can then KEEP all their d men and get a better prospect, yet? I don't see it. |

Trocheck and Saad should be locks if they actually make a real team. I'd dump Oshie and the overrated Carlsson too. Parise too I'd get rid of...1 point in his last 8 USA games. He will be even older too. Pavelski remains to be seen. He's better than Parise. When I have a minute I'll think about a lineup.

Hartnell has come out and said he's retracted his list of teams he'd accept a trade to, and will be staying in Columbus
I'd love to know what those teams were. |
