Bill Meltzer: Flyers Preseason Split Squad Gameday: 9/26/16 @ NJ, @NYI - bmeltzer
Great to see the white jersey again! I'm really excited to see how provy and konecny make out in the preseason. I'd be ecstatic if both do well and prove they can develop at the nhl level. Even if there are growing pains, it'll be great to watch them.
Man the Eagles looked great yesterday. |

Jake was at the facility Saturday. He was walking out as the afternoon session ended. Can't miss that flow. But he made it more obvious by wearing a Czech crest t-shirt.
Nothing stood out to me at that practice.
Interesting lineups for tonight. I take it Scott Gordon is at the Isles one instead of Gord Murphy who you listed twice. |

I'm a bears fan, but the Eagles are my number 2. Looks like I'm going with the Eagles this year. Bears need to clean house again! Great you decided to rebuild, but why not keep some of the offensive pieces you had and draft d. Re sign forte just to make the team watchable. What a mess that is.

As a Broncos fan the Bears on have one issue and I think you know who I mean. |

I was at the early session on Saturday, and the player who stood out to me the most was Aube-Kubel. Not saying he should be on the roster, but damn he has a hell of a shot and he carries the puck as calmly as anyone. |

I think it's going to be that most of the guys in green and white are the NHL guys minus the obvious ones who wore those colors to fill in for those in Toronto. The orange and the grey were the expected Phantoms and then the blue are the guys who got to work their asses off or they are going to Reading or Juniors. |

Yeah, I think there are maybe 3 forward roster spots up for 5-6 guys, so for guys like NAK or Fazleev to grab one would take a superhuman effort. But it was just nice seeing a young forward prospect who looks like he could land a top-6 spot down the line. |

Also, 2 non-Flyers thoughts:
1. Anyone see the hit and fight at Senators' practice? I'm guessing Patrick Sieloff is not to be well received in the dressing room from now on.
2. Now that Trouba has officially requested a trade, what would you be willing to give Winnipeg for him (if you would like to trade for him)? |

Those guys are expected to play large roles on the Phantoms...so them making the Flyers isnt much of a big deal to me. They will certainly get their shot, but the Phantoms need talent as well |

They do, and I'm glad that it seems like the Phantoms can actually be competitive. But then again, we've all thought that the last 2 seasons. But it looks promising. |

1. Just awful to see MacArthur concussed again. Was awesome to see Bobby Ryan react like that and stand up for him. Thought that was necessary with how uncalled for the hit was.
2. I've been thinking hard about this and have read other users' comments over the trade request... seems we make good trade partners but I am not trading Provy at all. Any trade is a tad complicated with Trouba's RFA status and his salary demand so I think any deal involving us would have to see 1 of Streit, Delz Zotto, or even a retained Amac going to WPG as well as 1 of Morin or Sanhiem. |

1) That dude will not be welcome in the Sens locker room and maybe even the Bing Sens locker. He's a dope. The Sens now have Stone and MacArthur concussed in practices you got to wonder what they will do to protect their players a little more. I know a Flyer took a high stick Saturday. The drill quickly stopped and he was checked while he gave the guy who sticked him a glare.
2) Trouba is an interesting guy but I'm not willing to unload the prospect level it would take right now. I'm hoping if a deal is worked AMac can be included even with 1/2 retained. But I am not looking forward to losing Sanheim, or Morin and the pick or picks Winnipeg would want. |

I'm excited to see Morin and Sanheim tonight (said every poster here).
Bill, you listed Gord Murphy being at both games tonight. I'm assuming he'll be at the Islander's game (splitting the coaching staff equally). |

I think that Trouba is what Sanheim could turn into, but Trouba plays a more physical game than Sanheim while Sanheim may be a better skater and seems to like to join the rush more (based on limited viewing). I wouldn't give any of Morin, Provorov, or Ghost in the deal. |

I like the idea of getting some RHD to compliment the plethora of LHD, but I don't think I like the idea of trading any of our D prospects for Trouba. I would rather they allow their defensemen to develop before trading one. Keep the lottery tickets |

I'm very hesitant to deal any of our d prospects away , but I'd be more in favor of dealing one of them for a winger compared to Trouba. |

Yeah. I'm sure he's on his way out. Prob is he's making too much to ship out and need a replacement. I'm hoping they draft a qb after this 0 and 16 season is over.
On the MacArthur hit. Wow. Is it just me or are the send an absolutely dysfunctional org. From the baffling trade for Phaneuf that basically helps your biggest rival, to throwing the head coach under the bus publically after firing him to this.
Just seems like a mess to me. |

I am a big believer in the benefit of a lefty righty defense pair so I would sacrifice Sanheim or Morin plus Del Zotto to get Trouba.
Provorov Trouba
Ghost Gudas
Morin/Sanheim Myers
That looks pretty dominate to me. And outside of Myers, that would be the defense starting no later than next season. |
