We've seen that out of guys coming in for their first stint late in the year though before as well. It'll be interesting to keep an eye on him and see what happens. - HonkFortheGoose

Man, I keep forgetting about Nelson being part of the organization, I really hope this kid turns into a really nice find. I will admit though, that I don't know much about his college career, so my question is... If, Nelson hits his full potential, who in the NHL may he be comparable to? |

Eh. I don't think he's that terrible. We've had worse, IMO. His skating is a concern, that's for sure. My nickname for him is Cody "Concrete Feet" Franson. I think in general he does bring a bit of something to the lineup that we need, but he didn't seem to generate that much of it last year. Hopefully we see something different this year.
Think about it this way, if he has a decent year, maybe Murray can manage to get something better than a 7th rounder at the deadline. Win/win if you ask me. - HonkFortheGoose
He's fine as a #5. Makes less than JG and is the better player.
Hopefully he's healthy and is a depth player for us in the playoffs, or is decent this year and can get a 2nd back in a trade.
The guy averages .40 ppg. He has value on offense. |

"Nelson is a skilled offensive defenseman that is tremendous at creating his own shot. He is calm and poised in the offensive zone and sees the ice well. He's really improved defensively over the past two seasons as well to become a player that plays major minutes for Minnesota State in every situation. He has potential as a second pairing defenseman at the NHL level that can provide some scoring punch from the blue line." |

Here's my crazy thought: Franson should play RW on the fourth line and 2nd pair PP. Let one of the younger, faster kids play D |

Very crazy thought.
The Sabres lack speed as it is, moving one of the slowest D men in the league to wing? Not sure that's a good idea... |
