Thanks - I think you're right about this.
CapFriendly says the Canucks are at 45 contracts and notes that Juolevi and Brisebois are both exempt from the 50-contract limit.

Correct, if he had value he would likely be gone already. Personally, I don't mind Sbisa - CanuckDon
he is a great skater and hits like crazy. Didnt notice him in WCOH so not sure what the complaint was. Last season Sbisa had a decent season, better than season 1.
Cant recall now what he did to get such disdain from the fans. Im guessing it was turnovers or play in front of the net.
Im sure he will be replaced |

His salary verses his play I think. Gives us a glimpse of promise on day and.... |

I think it's great that the PTOs have pushed so hard for jobs. Sheppard hasn't shown as well as Ruutu and Skille but collectively they have pushed the level of internal competition, and that's a good thing.
My 14F to start the year: Sedin, Sedin, Eriksson, Baertchi, Horvat, Rodin, Granlund, Sutter, Hansen, Burr, Ruutu, Etem, Dorsett, Virtanen.
I think Virtanen playing 9 mins a night on the 4th line is better than 20 mins a night in the AHL, but I would be fine to give his spot to Skille to see if Jake can dominate in Utica.
Gaunce should go down and be the 1C in Utica. I'd rather see him push his development in that role before succombing to life as a bottom six F in the NHL. Plus, where he's at today is not a vast improvement over what anyone else brings.
I believe this team can survive the loss of Etem, Dorsett or Burrows on waivers. I feel the same about Larsen and Biega. Tryamkin has not looked good aside from that first game last year. I say bon voyage if he wants to go back to Russia rather than report to Utica. Keeping him as dead weight on the roster shouldn't be an option. I don't want him riding the pine because he might develop into something, eventually.
So my 7 D are: Edler, Tanev, Hutton, Guddy, Sbisa, Stecher and Pedan.

I'll tell you why many fans hate Sbisa....a series of basement bloggers and teenaged staticians said he sucks, that's why. Fans that can't formulate their own opinions believe whatever they read regardless of the source. I say this daily on here, seperate the contract from the player.
He did make strides last year but some are unable/ unwilling to acknowledge his improvement |

i think it started because he was traded for Kesler (who despite the hate, held quite a bit of value at the time), was signed to a contract that he has not been able to live up to in many people's eyes and makes some bonehead plays.
I think he's fine as a 4-5 Dman. |

In the end it was Kesler and two 2nds for Sbisa, Sutter and EG and a 3rd. Solid return overall, he received a contract to early. |

I think youre right.... and yes that contract was over the top.
Kinda like how burke used to claim the new guy he got was the messiah. THe player could never live up to the hype burke gave to pump him and fans up so everyone said he was a failure. Burke hung him the day hed say this crap.
Id say keep him as a hitter for use in right situations unless you can move him |

my impression on the canucks seasons was that he was poorly used. But then fast forward to WCOH and I see that good defensive coaches like kruger and maurice had him strapped to the pine after a number of games |

Well...Sbisa was forced into a top 4 role which he isn't ready for. If he is limited to 15 minutes a night he is a fine depth defensemen. He is also still young so he may improve. Or, he may not. who knows (other than Vantel). |

Didn't Kruger sit him in favour of a few vets without NHL contracts ? Might be easier to put a certain type of game in place with guys who are more seasoned and can be trusted more |

Might have to tweak or start over on your roster man, we're 100% carrying 8 D and 13 forwards to start the season |

He did improve last year, however, if you watch the games you can formulate your own correct opinion that he's never going to live up to his 1st rnd selection. He is what he is....a physical bottom pairing guy who doesn't have the brain to process the NHL speed as the game currently stands. |

I guess we could pair him with Tanev and hope that makes him look good enough to trade for something decent |

perhaps the staff should consider the league they were in when they were assessed for draft order. Size of ice they played on as well. For every super star coming from sweden/russia etc how many flops are there? Brunstrom was a killer example of this, every GM wanted him yet never delivered for anyone. Was gone from nhl in what 2 years? |
