I guess we could pair him with Tanev and hope that makes him look good enough to trade for something decent
- NorthNuck

watch him flourish on a team with a good defensive coach willing to instruct him on where he wants him to be in various situations. Some players absolutely need a blueprint to follow

Aren't you almost 60? young is a relative term Youngish....young compared to our 100 year old first line
- CanuckDon

Regular years and NHL years are two completely different things!

perhaps the staff should consider the league they were in when they were assessed for draft order. Size of ice they played on as well. For every super star coming from sweden/russia etc how many flops are there? Brunstrom was a killer example of this, every GM wanted him yet never delivered for anyone. Was gone from nhl in what 2 years?

i think it started because he was traded for Kesler (who despite the hate, held quite a bit of value at the time), was signed to a contract that he has not been able to live up to in many people's eyes and makes some bonehead plays.

I think he's fine as a 4-5 Dman.

- dbot

I agree hes a fine bottom half defenseman.

Contract aside, I also think he represented the "rebuild" and those bonehead were not the quality of play many expected from the Canucks. You go from lingering Cup contenders to dumping Kesler and taking on a 24 year old defenseman who makes mistakes, its a stark contrast. We give grace to the young guys now and just hope for improvement, but at that time we still expected good plays

we have not been anywhere remotely close to the same since kesler was traded. He was a huge part of the team despite being an a-hole.

He was really good for the Canes too…just didn't translate to the NHL.

In the end it was Kesler and two 2nds for Sbisa, Sutter and EG and a 3rd. Solid return overall, he received a contract to early.
- CanuckDon

That 3rd turned into Dorsett I believe....

Have no idea where he came from originally. Im saying in general when picking a player we should look at the back ground 1st. Brunstrom for example, superstar over there, absolute zero here. There are several examples to draw on.

then theres radulov, guy can play on either ice back and forth. But Teams are reluctant cause hes a Giant a-hole supreme.

I'll tell you why many fans hate Sbisa....a series of basement bloggers and teenaged staticians said he sucks, that's why. Fans that can't formulate their own opinions believe whatever they read regardless of the source. I say this daily on here, seperate the contract from the player.

He did make strides last year but some are unable/ unwilling to acknowledge his improvement

I don't like Sbisa, Granlund, Burrows, Gaunce, and Etem...but, most of them are NHL players. it is what it is.

tree likely came in too heavy. He was listed as 268 instead of 240.
JV also came in 20-30 heavier.

Both likely just need conditioning stints.

You missed the point... He has been playing in NA conditions since junior, he just isn't a top quality player plain and simple.

Gaunce looks like he will be a solid bottom 4 to have. Etem would be a good top 9 if he had Hansens work ethic, without it he is a AHL call up for the rest of his career. Burrows makes sense as 13th forward as having a young guy play it makes no sense as sitting in the press box for 50+ games a year waiting for injury doesn't make sense for development, and unless we aboslutely need the 900k in salary, Burrows deserves to retire staying in the Canucks line-up, at least to start the season. Sbisa should be waived. Pedan is better than he is already i'd say. Granlund isn't needed. Labate/Gaunce would be better for 4th line minutes with Dorsett I think.

Yup.
I remember seeing him playing for Portland vs Giants.
He stood out in that game, and i was somehow aware that he was property of the Ducks.

Agree with most, just not the bolded.
Granlund has proven he can play when the real season starts. Labate/Gaunce still have work to do against a real NHL lineup, Labate especially.

I think Granlund deserves a fair shake. There were alot of guys who came in last year and didnt play a full season. He looks better so far and might work out of the wing.
