Because he face almost 4000 shots on the year. He's not the problem. W/o him last year the Rangers draft in the top 5, or should I say they coyotes draft in the top 5. - tomburton99
Look, I'm not trying to get into a Lundqvist debate. He's still a phenomenal goalie, but he's not going to bail your team out the way he used to. He's 34 years old and is simply on the back-nine of his career. You're going to see a slip in his play over the course of an entire season and playoffs.
Your team has A LOT of "if."
-Will Girardi bounce back?
-Will Nash come around?
-How will Zibanejad gel on his new team?
-How will your other new additions gel?
-How will your defense be as a hole
I'm honestly not trying to start an argument, but too many Ranger fans I speak to get so defensive, but you need to step back as a fan and just took a real look.
I don't think anyone predicting the Rangers to miss is because they're bad. It's because there are too many unknowns.
If you guys make it, it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest and if you miss? I wouldn't be surprised, but I also don't think it would be by any more than a couple of points. |

I hear you... the other side of this is the new additions work out. There is a lot of speed and talent in NY, As a Pens fan this pains me but:
Penguins
Rangers
Caps
Iles
Phily
Carolina
Coumbus
Devils

Speed was a big factor for the Pens, but it did also come down to usage and chemistry. Sullivan took what they got and see saw improvements with Hagelin and Kessel when he took over.
You can add all the speed you want, but at the end of the day the players have be used properly as well as having chemistry.
Something that helped the Pens was in the back-end. The Rangers can have what's necessary up front, but if they can't transition out of the back-end it will be very problematic.
Look at a team like Dallas. Their defense was far better than people realized. They had very mobile dmen which led to generating lots of offense. Goaltending was their issue. The Rangers defense is not particularly mobile, but again, we need to see how some of their young dmen fair and if we see rebound seasons from Girardi and Staal. |

I think the class of the division are the Caps then Pens and its not even close for anyone after that.
The Rangers, Isles, Flyers could all finish within points of each other. I dont see any one of these three teams being significantly better overall than the other. Obviously you take Lundquist first in net or Tavares at Forward or the Flyers young defense-men assuming Provorov makes the team out of camp and joins Ghost.
I think the next group has the Devils, Jackets and Hurricanes all finishing within points of each other. |

Yeah, pretty much agree although I have fairly high expectations of the Isles.
I curiously watching the Devils, though. At least from the rumors, it looks like they may make some significant moves that could really change their team's chances. Adding someone like Fowler or Trouba and maybe another forward could be quite profound. |

So many rumors... so little action...
Regardless, I think it's going to be a crazy year in the Metropolitan. |

Agreed..I think adding one or two players to the Devils puts them in that group with the Rangers, Isles and Flyers. |

For good or bad, Shero is a man of action. I think you guys make one more splash before the season starts.
Shero loves loading up on dmen, so I expect you guys to be aggressive in picking up Fowler or Trouba. |

Winnipeg seems to want a haul back for Trouba so I doubt Shero will do that unless he uses his Jedi mind trick on them (ala Hall). Fowler or one of the other Duck's D seems more likely. |

Do the Devils have the assets to bring in more impact players without trading a roster player? |

We have our first and two second rounders for this years draft and lots of cap space.
From a prospect standpoint we only have a few of real trade value. |

I think Shero is waiting out the cap crunched teams for some bargains - Ducks & Tampa are 2 that come to mind. Both having Dmen that you guys could use (although Tampa would have to pay you big time - say hello to Mr Johnson ), & need cap space. |
