What if the question is this: "Is Nylander better next year with a year on the Sabres or a year on the Amerks?" Could be better for his development to play in the AHL. If he's good enough, by all means bring him up. But if he's going to struggle for 40 some games, get limited ice time, and potentially be watching a few games in the press box is that better than getting 12-17 minutes a night in Rochester and as he grows being put in bigger situations?

If this was a question of juniors v the NHL I'd probably say NHL, but since it's the AHL I like him going there just because if he does play as well as we think he can it's a short ride back to Buffalo. Just my opinion, of course.

Tough decision. Might have to look at Sam for a comparable . But Sam his first few games looked lost out there. Nylander at least seemed more advanced than sam did. Will have to see how it goes.

I really like the comparison of Nylander and Reinhart as rookies. Nylander reminds me a lot of what Samson looked like during his 9 games.

Nylander wasn't necessarily more advanced than 23 during this time, but rather just different. I think Samson's vision and passing were better even back then in comparison, but Nylander's skating and stick handling seem better even now. Also I'd wager Samson would still lose to him in a foot race at practice tomorrow.

He needs a year to gain 15-20lbs (got tossed around a bit in that Leafs game). His skill could survive an NHL game, but I don't think he's ready for an NHL season.

I say at this point, if you're unsure, send him down and see how he does at the AHL level. If he looks comfortable there and not out of place, then call him up when there's an injury and see how he does in a regular season NHL game.

To be honest, I haven't noticed him much, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. But I also didn't get to watch as much as I would have liked, so I may not really be the best judge at this point.

I would also like to say that everything I have seen from Casey Nelson indicates to me that he has a good future in the NHL. He knows what to do with the puck when it is on his stick and defensively he positions his body very well as far as keeping himself between the opposition and the net and how he uses his body along the wall. that being said one more year in Rochester won't hurt him, but he might even be ready half way through this year, I think he could offer everything on the power play that Franson does

I wonder if 26-year old Moulson had the perceived skill at the time to be a top 6 player, compared to a guy like Nylander today?

Also, Ennis is skilled. Would he be in your top 6 on this year's Sabres?

He's going to be decent. He's going to be a PP guy, not sure if is a middle or bottom pairing d-man yet, but he's an NHLer. Guhle has been a disappointment thus far this preseason for me so it's a nice consolation.

Anyone up for fantasy hockey?

So far there's just 2 of us, me and Gerbe, but I know there were a bunch of us that wanted to do that keeper league with Orgasm.

I'm thinking just a regular league, but I'm open to suggestions on format.

If anyone wants in post/pm me.

I'll post a few more times over the next few days so the most people see it. I'd like to get 10, but can make do with 8 if need be.

I agree, I was saying the same thing just last week. Call him up sporadically throughout the season so you can gauge his progress.

I'll have to look it up, but since he's AHL eligible is he still considered a slide risk(the 9 game thing burning a year)? I thought only junior players were considered slide risks.

It was a very good show, but later in the run they tried to do PSA episodes about drugs and stuff, and it was cringe worthy.
