Sure, you just made it sound like they should have been able to get all those done easily. Could be reading that wrong, though.
- L_B_R

No - just that it doesn't matter why moves couldn't be made - cap issues, friend bad-mouthing the team, brother issues - if they don't get done, they don't get done. Not blaming Stan particularly....

Stoshu, Stoshu, DupaYoshuuuuuu!...... WTF! You can't tell me he couldn't have beat that deal, Wellll anybody call Tazer and tell him, you eat Richard Panik and like it!! I hope Yak turns into a hell of a player for the Blues and torches the Hawks!
That would have been the perfect pick up , a kid drafted #1 over all not a good fit with 1team, potentially coming to a team built for his style! Schmaltz, Motte and fortin never played 1god dam game in the NHL , this kid has. WTF!!

Don't blame Stan.
Bettman better not make an appearance at the UC on draft day. If that bastage takes the stage, then the fans in Chicago failed!

Its not about where he was when he was drafted its about where he is today. If the draft was held today Yak wouldn't be number 1 and he probably would not be taken in round 1.

The positive news here is that while some of the Hawks rooks have had a real promising fall, mgmt. recognizes that we need NHL caliber help at forward beyond what's present in the pipeline. Lets see where this leads....

You ain't kiddin, I'm no Hawk apologist and neither is JJ. We want to see them do good but this GM lately is batting below the Mendoza line! He's gotten takin in 80% of his trades, had 2 FA's turn their asses up at him the last 2summers, I'll give the scouting department Panerin, but Bowman will probably F that up down the road too! Now he's gonna go all Lovie on us, with the "we like our team" or Richard is our 1st line LW crap"! Now he's gonna try and pound down a bunch of unproven kids down Q and the fans throats! He's an arrogant F! I'm probably not the only 1that feels that way but probably 1of the few to step out blatantly say how Ifeel. Don't kid yourself, those 3cups were Mike Smith and Dale Tallons work, this team sliding down will beBowmans work! F! Am I hot about losing a potentially nice player with a fresh start to the Blues ! Bend over Stoshu, Armstrong just got ya !

Yakupov was the perfect pickup? Certainly not. He was still a risk and there was no guarantee he would have been any better in Chicago. He would have been worth the risk but only at the right price. It would have been nice to have Yak, but losing out on him is certainly not a heartbreaker.

Seems like a big swing and a miss from the FO
Add that to the others this off season

Pretty sure it was a small swing and a miss...

Maybe, but if a team if adamant about not taking any salary back, there's not a lot the FO could have done. The alternative was moving out a roster player to make room. The Oilers wanted a 3rd and they got it without having to retain. Could also be that the Oilers FO got trigger happy.

Vesey and Hudler didn't want to take the Hawks offer. The former was always a long-shot lbr and not getting the latter sucks a bit but they are a cap strapped team with limited to offer in money.

There are lots of things the Hawks FO have messed up (Daley, Scuderi, Handzus, habibulin all come to mind easily), but most if not all of those are low on the list.

- L_B_R

It wasn't a salary cap issue, it was a dollars issue. If we really wanted Yak that badly, Rocky could have sent a mill over and that would be for EDM to retain.

Settle down a bit. You aren't serious about 3 cups being Smith/Tallon work? So far, Tallon has done squat in Fla, and Smith set this franchise back 10 years. Drafted well, but made some terrible pro trades. If he continued, there would not have been 3 cups.

It's hard to when it seems like Bowman comes up short or on the losing end of just about every thing he puts his signature to. Said before, Givehim Panerin, but he'll screw that up next spring, you watch.
This kid was a nice low risk option with NHL experience, probably the wrong fit in Edmonton, and I will gladly take some of those players that are starting to come into their own that Dale has drafted, Ekblad, gudbransson, Bugstad, Crouse, yes I know some of them were dealt, beats, Svedberg, Pokka, Gusteffsson, and a few other of Stanley's hair brain schemes!
Someone said it a page or 2 ago, all this Kool aid the PR dept. is serving up about some of those kids, there are some upstairs that know they still need more NHL talent, especially a 1st line LW!

Edmonton signed Kris Russell for 1 year at $3.1 million.

Another epic fail by Stan, he could have signed Russell for the league minimum.

Swing and miss on Vesey
Swing and miss on Yak

What this tells me is they are NOT happy with the situation and are looking for another winger who can slot into the top 6.

In the end, that infernal Daley for Scuderi for Erhoff trade may have prevented this deal from going down because Oil didn't want to hold salary.

Lets see if they have a plan C somewhere. Stan's 11th hour before the season deals are usually his most hilarious ones. Can't wait to see what he pulls out the grab bag.

There is already speculation about him switching wings. First saw it hours ago from Igor Eronko ‏@IgorEronko

ETA - he did play some left wing with the oilers too

Sweet mamacita! People are acting like we lost out on Gretzky. It's Nail Yakupov. He of the likely scratch for the Oilers. He would have been an interesting pick-up, but nothing near guaranteed. Maybe, just maybe we have some perspective here. We have some "promising" rooks and an improved D. As has been stated a number of time before by a number of people, they will likely play a few weeks, evaluate and if a move needs to be made they make it.

There is more to a trade than it simply looking good on paper...

Stan didn't swing and miss on Vesey. Vesey chose to sign with NYR probably because as he said he wanted to stay on the east coast and his good friend Kevin Hayes plays there. To blame Stan for not signing Vesey when it was totally out of his control is nonsense.

Stan couldn't offer EDM the same deal as St. Louis did because the Hawks needed to have EDM retain salary and St. Louis didn't. Yakupov's cap hit is $2.5M and the Hawks have under $2M in cap space. So, again, it wasn't a swing and miss by Stan if EDM refused to retain salary.

Tallon has built a team in FLA and now someone else has taken over and will get credit....(sound familiar). I'm not denying that it wasn't Tallon alone, but he knows talent and knows how to make a fair trade.

Stan continues to be the caretaker...sure Stan's made some nice peripheral moves...Oduya for one. How bout Frolik? How bout Vermette? But the Hawks have depth In their scouting department ...Barry Smith got you Panarin. Bergevin got you Shaw.

Bowman's mishandling of the offseason in the summer of 2015 cost the Hawks a real chance at repeating in the cap era. You can start with ghastly resigning of Rundblad...as well as the Sharp fiasco and it goes from there. The Hawks needed a #4dman badly...and Bowman failed not only during the summer but at the TDL as well where he gave up both Dano and Danault.

Or how bout the summer before where got little to nothing for Leddy after not moving him until he was out of time.

It's bad enough that Nill got Hudler and effectively pantsed Stan again...but now with all the buzz that the Hawks are trying to get Yak and instead he goes to the Blues...another small PR nightmare for McD. No question the Hawks were interested in Yak and your main division rival gets him.

Is Yak any good...well he's got some talent as John mentioned and he would have brought some offense. We know where this team was 5 vs. 5 last season.

But we are where we are...and I'm hopeful that Stan's draft picks can play...and we've seen some kids who look good - Motte, Hartmann, Forsling, Fortin..etc...the kids looks good - how good they will be against other teams not composed of AHL squads in the preseason remains to be seen.

No one is "blaming" the infallible Stan for not getting Vesey.

But there was a swing and miss for Yak as that was probably (maybe) directly tied to the stupid ass deal Bowman made involving Scuderi.
