I think energy is what it comes down to. Forwards normally have to do a lot more skating. Defenseman normally just have to hold their position. The key to any good team is to have three pairs who can defend well.

I just meant "energy" as playing a gritty game. "Sandpaper" if you will. That's why White has never gotten more than a 1-year extension since his ELC and Rinaldo seems destined to be AHL scrap for the forseeable future.
It's great to play a physical, tough game. But in today's NHL, you need to be able to contribute more as well. Those two did not bring much, aside from the odd goal by White.
