Yeah, I'd be pretty surprised if he didn't get 5 games at this point. However, the DOPS is rarely, if ever, consistent, so who knows? - BiggE
I thought that the 5+ was if you were required to appear in-person. He was offered an in-person but was allowed to do it by phone. I could be 100% wrong though.

Also, still not boarding or charging. - jmatchett383
Unfortunately if they gave Schenn 3 games for hitting too hard in the series last year they'll definitely give Gudas at least 3 for hitting too hard in the preseason.

Who knows? They seem to be making it up as they go along

Sure do...I could see them trying to make a point out of it, but I dont believe he was injured either which has always played a part for better or worse

The player can waive going for an in person hearing, and opt to do it over the phone. I'd have to get a better look at the hit, but I suspect the head was the initial point of contact, and the hit was late.

Yeah, it was a bit late and Gudas' shoulder appears to graze the player's chin, but if that's any other Flyer player, it's probably no more than a game.

It was late, and it was to the head. But he glided into the hit and did not leave his feet.
"42.1
Charging
- A minor or major penalty shall be imposed on a player who skates or jumps into, or charges an opponent in any manner. Charging shall mean the actions of a player who, as a result of distance traveled, shall violently check an opponent in any manner. A “charge” may be the result of a check into the boards, into the goal frame or in open ice. "
To me, that sounds like any legal, hard hit is a charge. Now, if we want to discuss rule 43.1, that is a different story..
"43.1
Checking from Behind
– A check from behind is a check delivered on a player who is not aware of the impending hit, therefore unable to protect or defend himself, and contact is made on the back part of the body. When a player intentionally turns his body to create contact with his back, no penalty shall be assessed"
Also, just to be clear: if Manning is not cleared for contact by opening night and Gudas does get suspended, the Flyers will stand at 5 healthy defensemen on the roster, correct?

If Mr. Provorov stays and if you consider MacDonald a defenseman, yes

The repeat offender status is what is going to add to the number of games, as well as other questionable hits that he has gotten away with the in the last year or so.

Yup, they will most likely bring up Morin. In fact, when you factor they open up with a 3 game road trip with 2 games out west, I think they bring Morin up even if Manning is cleared to go, assuming that Gudas is suspended.
However, that would leave them with only 12 forwards, since they will only have 21 non suspension roster spots and 2 are goalies.
Flyers hockey: never a dull moment and nothing is ever easy.

See, I think the second half of that is B.S. Not that the league won't take it into consideration, but if those hits were deemed to not warrant supplemental discipline, then they should not be considered when deciding on supplemental discipline.

He didn't leave his feet, but he raises up into the contact.

Silly man, expecting logic and consistency from the NHL. Next, you'll be asking for honesty and civility from politicians and dignity and class from the Kardashian/Jenner family.

I can't agree on that. This is a player that is a little out of control, and just because borderline hits didn't result in a suspension, it shows a pattern of the players behavior on the ice. If they're truly concerned about player safety, that's an issue.
