I recall MJL and a few other regulars here telling me several times in the roughly last calendar year there's essentially no way Konecny and Provorov would both make the team this year (which I stated adamantly on numerous occasions). Most knew Provorov had a good shot, but I was also consistently told that Konecny in particular would likely not even be ready for a top-9 role, let alone a top 6 role where he's best suited.
Something about them being "too green" and "inexperienced" in a league where most 30 year old's can't even find work.
Not usually an "I told you so" kind of guy, but I (frank)ing told ya so. - mochoson
Feel better now?
And I'll go out on a limb and guess that there is no way MJL said that there was no way either/both would make it.
But congrats on guessing right. You win. |

I watched a fair number of Brandon and Calgary games in the WHL last year. It was so evident that Provorov was playing an NHL type game that I thought he had a significantly good chance to make the team this season. Sanheim was a joy to watch, but he clearly needed to learn how to play the pro game.
Konecny making the roster was a very pleasant surprise, but from what bits I was able to watch this preseason, well deserved. |

One of my favorite fights I've ever seen in person:
2 dudes jawing at each other coming out of a concert. One dude steps back and takes off his hoodie and tshirt (it's like the middle of February), comes at the other dude, gets knocked out with 1 punch. In an act of kindness, no one stole his shirts. |

Did they guarantee they wouldn't make it or did they think they wouldn't make it - YuenglingJagr
The general sentiment from most posters was that Provorov had a "good shot" to make the team but that he was no lock. Konecny was a "long shot", the most frequent support for such a stement being that the Flyers would have to make a trade of some kind because of a glut of forwards. I only remember MJL because I me and him almost always butt heads and I got into it with him over this particular topic on more than one occasion.
Not looking for any type of recognition, I promise. Most of you will likely just say "good guess" anyway. I don't need my confidence boosted from the internet. Just not really sure why it's taken so long for most NHL fans to catch onto the youth movement of the league. People reference technical, cookie cutter GM speak all the time like it's the law...
"Nothing wrong with over cooking a prospect. Dont get your hopes up."
"Junior isn't pro's. You can't stick handle through everyone in the NHL."
That's all well and good when it applies. There are no universal laws to hockey prospects. What I'm basically getting at is I'm not sure why the above statements seem to be programmed responses that are so often repeated, especially in Bills blogs. Most who post here consistently are very, very smart hockey people. There are definitely more hardcore than casual fans in Bills blogs, which is why it puzzles me that the way this game is trending still seems so taboo to some. |

I thought going into camp Provorov was a 90% chance to make it, and Konecny was 50%. |

Maybe it's because I watch a lot of Junior hockey in addition to the NHL. For all the praise Provorov got all last year about being "too good" and there being "almost no way" he'd be returned to the CHL (the "hype train"), I couldn't understand why the sentiment wasn't the same for Konecny. Anyone who watched him last year knew he was one of the best forwards in the entire CHL and was clearly playing down a level. |

In a re-draft, Konecny is probably a top 10 pick IMO. Him and Provorov from the same draft is an incredible haul even if none of the other kids we drafted last year amount to a damn thing...

I think Konecny and Provorov both fill huge needs on the team, top six winger and competent defenseman(!).
It helps that they both seem to have good heads on their shoulders.
Kudos to both of them.
