He won because Canada wanted "change". How's that working out? Same thing happened here in Alberta.

People need to chill...it's the Global economy that's got us all in the dumps, Trudeau and Notley can't do a whole hell of a lot about that. Maybe if China didn't reduce their Oil consumption by 10% , which equals 50% of the rest of the world, we'd be doing fine. The only other real sustainable option is diversification , but that's a long, painful process we won't see gains for in years. The rest is jus the policy, some good , some bad, but nothing that effects our pay checks significantly .

In Alberta there is plenty that could be done to try and help rejuvenate the job market. Drop these minimum wage increases so small businesses can afford to stay in business. We don't need new taxes implemented at a time when we are running record breaking unemployment rates. Try increasing the amount of people paying taxes to generate more money for the government instead of increasing taxes to gain extra money. In this situation quantity is wanted instead of quality.

Notley picked the worst possible time to increase taxes on Alberta Oil. She delivered the death punch.

Every time I hear someone say that increasing the minimum wage is a great idea, I cringe...

I have nothing against a slow increase in minimum wage. But by 19.6% like they just did on Oct 1st is a recipe for disaster.

I have nothing against it, but when people think it's going to improve everything by itself, they're so wrong... Businesses are not going to take the loss... The cost of products/services rise, buying power remains constant, but has a negative impact on those who have fixed incomes (pensioners/those receiving disability benefits, etc).

I was looking at stats a few days ago from when the minimum wage was around $3... People's buying power was so much higher.

Exactly. In my opinion at times like this you decrease taxes to try and generate more spending and job growth. Once it's recovered you can slowly increase these things. But at a time while the province is running an unemployment rate of 8.5%, nearly 2 full percent higher than it was 1 year ago, it's counterproductive.

So how do we generate job growth ( actually, alberta is looking at National high of 2% in 2017) when out main industry is down? Cost of living in Alberta is still really high despite the economy so what's going to generate spending to fuel the economy? You guys are looking for quick solutions that don't exist. The province (frank)ed up by not diversifying when they had the influx of people and a strong economy. That wasn't Notley. Construction in Alberta went from 7+Billion in 2015 to just over 2 this year. That's not Notley, that's the Oil crash. We need new supplementary industry to sustain when Oil is down. We had our chance to do that and failed. Now we're playing catch up. I don't mind catching up but I realize it's going to take years and years if we want to manufacture a strong ( for example) software and IT industry, otherwise we depend on trade agreements to move some of our other resources, like Water and Lumber...younwant to sell the water to nestle and chop down all our trees for pennies on the dollar?
