Interesting thought. This organization views Anders Nilsson to be better than Mike Condon. Condon slipped through to Pitt.

If you claim Condon, what do you do with Nilsson?

Same thing. Waiver him.

And I'm not saying the Sabres are right or wrong. In fact, I think the general opinion of Nilsson drastically improved through the pre season. And Condon started to collapse after the first 3rd of the season.

My thought was there were probably people here on September 1st that would take Condon 10/10 times over Nilsson.

Come on we all know that the Hart has to go to McD or Matthews.

Eff McD.

I hope Matthews scores only 14 goals with 18 assists (that will be less than Dougie Hamilton).

There probably still are. I don't dislike Nilsson, but a backup just needs to not suck and keep us in the games. I think he can do that.

I drafted him early, he better do something. I'm expecting the same season as Eichel last year.

oh.

And a backup needs to be able to fill in long term because sometimes a goalie goes down with a high ankle sprain for a few months.

Finding quality over cost for a backup is and should be a big priority for any team. Look at guys like Brian Elliott, Carter Hutton, Mike Condon at first, Martin Jones, Chad Johnson and even Louis Domingues. All have/had very reasonable contracts for a backup and realy helped carry their team when the starters were out. You need a guy like that to be able to fill in long term.

If Lehner goes down long-term I would almost guarantee that its Ullmark's net.

I don't think there's probably a huge difference between the two of them, which is most likely why Murray didn't make that move. Nilsson has had some good stretches. God knows every goalie falls apart in Edmonton after awhile. Somehow Edmonton hasn't quite figured out yet that it's not the goalie that's the problem, it's the defense in front of the goalie.

I'm not gonna lie, I'm a bit intrigued to see what he can do this year.

Highly debatable. Ullmark did ok in Buf before getting wrecked in Rochester. Regardless of circumstances, he's proved less than Nilsson has. There may be competition if Lehner were to go down long term, but I'm willing to bet it's Nilsson's to lose.

I would probably agree. It is interesting to me that Ullmark's numbers with the big club last year were far better than they were in the A.

Not me.

As bad as we were, Rochester was a nightmare.

That's true. Didn't get out there to see a game last year. Part of it had to do with the fact that the team didn't interest me all that much. Other than Baptiste and Bailey, wasn't too much on the farm I felt was worth driving that far to see.

I only say that because if Lehner goes down everyone and their brother know he is not the answer...I would figure GMTM wants to see what the next best solution to finding a long-term goalie in the organization can do with a heavy workload

Injury prone. Montreal should cut him since he's clearly a bubble boy.

At least Dregger isn't ridiculous. He says he doesn't see the Sabres in the playoffs but also says the Leafs are nowhere near playoffs although they'll be more skilled than last year.
