I would like to see Lyubimov play. Seems a shame to just carry him around like $925,000 worth of baggage. The PK units could be:

Bellemare-Read
Gordon-Lyubimov
Couturier-Simmonds

I'd personally add Raffl to the rotation over Simmonds.

While we are at it...I get why the rulebook states the first goal should have been waived off, but I don't think the contact prevented Mason from making a save at all. I didn't mind the call

Marchessault is still on pace for 82 goals btw

Raffl will be dead by Christmas with the way he blocks shots

The contact definitely took away any chance Mason had to get over to make the save. I just can't say that he would've made it. I think even without the bump, the goal is probably scored, but that's speculation.

I wasn't either. And say what you will about Matt Read's play offensively, but you don't follow the man behind the net and leave the front wide open. If the player can score from behind the net, that's on the goalie. Granted, it was a total breakdown on multiple fronts, but rule #1 is do not follow the man behind the net if there's a player in front of it.

Read attempted to make the right play there in my opinion, by going after the player with the puck, the problem is not his decision making there, but his execution. He didn't take the man out nor prevent the puck from getting out front. Other players got beat to the net on the backcheck. Schultz was too aggressive in the neutral zone.

It is sad that two biggest stars of the future are on teams that don't get broadcast in the US. Toronto is at least not as bad as Edmonton. McDavid's entire career will be off the grid in the US unless he makes the Stanley cup or when he plays in the Olympics.

Or when Chia trades him in an historically awful deal.

It's a shame no one else can kill penalties on this team other than VDV. I feel like they should have signed someone to kill penalties and take those all important defensive zone faceoffs.

Congrats on the book, Bill

I kind of agree with him, but I doubt allowing celebrations will help the sport. The league needs to market more players instead of teams. The game needs to evolve as well. It's eventually going to happen. Some team will be the Pheonix Suns and everyone will take notice.

I don't. A regular season goal needs nothing more than arms raised or some kind of not-over-the-top fist pumping.

And I think the league needs to market teams more as opposed to individual players. Hockey isn't like the NBA where one guy really can control the game. It's very much a full team sport. Most teams don't have a truly marquee guy and heaven help them if they try to shove McDavid or Matthews down our throats like they did with Crosby.

But, alas, the NHL really does suck at marketing so we'll get these two poster boys shoved down our throats while the "casual hockey fan" watches the NFL and NBA.

I know it wont happen because of the PK but I would like to see Lyubimov in for VDV. if he is going to continue to be a healthy scratch I rather see him with the Phantoms getting playing time.

I'm very encouraged about Read's play and really am looking forward to Schenn coming back so we can see the trickle down effect of the lines. personally I want to see Raffl-Cousins-Weise (Raffl or Weise can center if they really want to convert Cousins to wing) and PEB-Gordon-Read. I would scratch VDV and send Lyubimov down being he is more considered a "prospect" (yes older but still) and perhaps a part of the future.

Also look forward to Gudas coming back. With the way Manning is playing, and assuming he keeps it up over the next 4 games, I would not take him out of the lineup. AMAC or Schultz would be my choice.

Its so nice to have good depth.

This, a million times, this!

Back in the 70s, 80s, and 90s, individual players like Gretzky, Orr, Lemieux, etc... were certainly marketed, but it was going to see the Flyers play certain teams that I found exciting. in the 70s, there was nothing like going to the Spectrum to see them take on the Bruins, Canadiens or the hated Rangers. In the 80s, along with Rags, it was the Oilers, Caps and Isles and in the 90s, it morphed into Detroit, NJ and Pittsburgh.

Put it this way, Marcel Dionne might have been a great player, but Flyers fans certainly didn't get all worked up to go see the Kings in 1979. Or for that matter Dale Hawerchuk's Jets or Denis Savard's Blackhawks.
