Well no poop you gotta give to get. My point is, are you trading Jack for Drew Doughty? PK Subban? Victor Hedman? Erik Karlsson? Because if you're not, good (frank)ing luck. - TheSabresTaco
I know I'm gonna hate it but I think we can get a solid return for nylander + |

There's absolutely SOMETHING he could have done. What is that something? because I can guarantee you that something is not a #1 D. And yes he has time to adjust. I think he knows we need a #2. After that, you can find talent anywhere to fill the bottom pair effectively. |

If you could go back and change the outcome of either the 14 or 15 draft, would you rather have:
Ekblad and Eichel
Or
Reinhart and Mcdavid - jcragcrumple
Can we have ekblad and mcDavid Lol
It doesn't matter TM was going to draft reinhart first or second |

Good question.
I go with Ekblad and Eichel. You have a Risto Ekblad pairing with a #1 center? LOL |

Agreed however I think the defense is going to be average when they figure out who their main 6 guys are.
But like you I agree Fowler is not the type of D-man they need to add at this point. Lindholm is that guy... |

Sorry, I don't buy that. We have needed a top pairing guy for 2 years
Anton Stralman was signed two years ago to a 4 mil per year deal and would undoubtedly be the #1 D man on this team.
Seth Jones
Shea Weber
PK Subban
Adam Larsson
Keith Yandle
Alex Goligoski
All traded or signed as UFA's, who'd all be #2's on this current team
Nikita Zaitsev who's looked dynamite for the Leafs, and was great in the world cup was a UFA out of Russia.
There have been and will be multiple opportunities to get D men for this team, that are better than what we have
Edit - did not see your comment about needing a #2 |

Because I see things differently than you. LA won with Kopitar and Doughty. Boston won with Bergeron and Chara. Chicago won with Toews Kane and Keith. Pittsburgh won with Crosby and Letang.
And I can tell you with certainty that those teams don't win without a highly competent puck moving defense. Those are some if not the best centers in the game. Imagine where Eichel and O'Reilly could ascend to with Ekblad and Risto manning the point. |

Can I take Ekblad without the concussions? Because it would be Ekblad and Eichel.
Having Risto with Ekblad for a decade would be our Keith and Seabrook.
Then having Eichel and ROR as the top 2 centers...There would be another hole in the top 6 in forwards but I would rather try to fill that hole (gigity) as more top 6 forwards are made available than top 2 defensemen. |

Ekblad and Eichel - you have your #1 on both ends of the ice settled that way. May be missing out on "the best player in the NHL" (allegedly), but having a TRUE stud d-man and a damn good center (allegedly) wins in that choice for me. |

Anton Stralman was signed two years ago to a 4 mil per year deal and would undoubtedly be the #1 D man on this team.
Seth Jones-traded for a young stud center...who the Sabres aren't trading
Shea Weber-traded for PK
PK Subban-traded for Weber
Adam Larsson-traded for Hall
Keith Yandle- not the type of defensemen they need now
Alex Goligoski- only guys I would have thought about

We could have gotten them but the question is the cost. The time to go for a top 2 guy is now, but what will it take to get? Forgetting the past and looking at the now there are a few guys that are available. Namely Shattinkirk, Trouba, Fowler. Shattinkirk is, reportedly, out of our price range. The other 2 aren't top 2 guys.
We need a number 2 guy, but maybe waiting is the best plan for now. |

Traded and not for peanuts...so your point while its valid is still doing more harm than good to the ultimate building of the team.
Nylander for Lindholm is the only thing I think they could possibly do and at this point it would be Nylander plus... |

At some point we need to trade from a position of strength to get a weakness. I just don't agree that defense is as weak as we say, nor is it as strong as it looked on paper last year.
My recommendation is to ride it out with what we have for now. Hopefully a few assets look good and can raise their value (Fasching, Bailey, Nylander) and we can package that and some draft picks for a serviceable guy. I don't expect to get a top pairing guy for that but it'll be a player that we can use. |

Lindholm and Risto would be to Buffalo what Seabrook and Keith are to Chicago.
The big difference however is neither of Risto or Lindholm would be Norris candidates but their importance would be just as big.
That would be your top pairing for the next 6-8 years.
Nylander is talented but he has ways to go obviously before he is riding on the wing with Eichel and Reinhart (or O'Reilly and Okposo).
If the Sabres were healthy and I thought this year or next year they could be competing for the cup I would do Nylander for Lindholm all day. At the point they are now, I would still probably do it but it would create issues in the cap down the road. - Stripes77
Ageed if you can get lindholm Nylander ++is well worth it! As a leaf fan ,again that would suck, but with the cap you guys would have next year. ...could be dare I say.....contending? |
