What else is on your mind? What other talking points do you have from the first two games? What stands out to you as worth talking about? Say so in the comment section.
the split for carry ins and dump ins...was one game more heavily skewed than the other? i would have guessed the SJ game was more of the dump ins, and the PHI game was more of the carry ins.
i thought the fourth line looked good in general, including nolan. |

The bolded parts conflict with each other. You're suggesting that whether a player had a good or bad game can "likely" be measured by Corsi, then turning around and saying that Corsi isn't a good stat for measuring whether a player had a good or bad game. No stat is perfect for measuring a player's game. "Likely" is as good as you can get. Even goals and assists can be flukey. Brown could have a horrible game, but still end up with a couple of undeserved assists. That's where the eye test is important. I think that we agree on that part.
You're confusing assessing performance in two games with assessing overall ability based on two games. Those are completely different things. Jason thinking that Doughty wasn't very good in the first two games doesn't mean that he thinks that Doughty isn't very good. Similarly, you or I critiquing a particular player (whether it's King or Muzzin) for his play in two games doesn't mean that our opinion of that player was only just formed based on two games. I'm not sure why anyone would assume that was. - Osprey
For the record, my assessment of king is over 3 years. I can't stand this guy. Why sutter has a love affair is beyond me.
Top 5 pick! Woooooooooooo!!

They do not conflict. I'm saying that you can't look at someone's Corsi % for an individual game and definitively say that they had a good or bad game based on those numbers, but if you look at 82 individual games, more often than not the games with positive Corsi numbers were good games. It's just like comparing the shot totals between two teams in a given game. Did the team that outshot their opponent have a better game? More often than not, yes, but it certainly isn't a given. There are many cases where the outshot team played a better all around game and had more high quality chances despite getting less shots on the goalkeeper.

Wooooooooo - KINGS67
Yeah I would take that kid.... now I want the kings to tank even worse than my 20 straight loss prediction.
can you imagine that, dump carter in the off season and have this down the middle next season:
Kopitar, Patrick, Kempe, shore/Dowd
what worries me is if we start tanking real bad that DL will make some panic moves |

Top 5 pick here we come - KINGS67
I don't think the Kings had a terrible game. They were very good in the first period. Zatkoff gave up two softies from low percentage angles.
The second period was awful. The Kings need to stop doing that.
The Kings were again very good in the third. Their passes were stick to stick and they got quality chances.
Kopitar's cross-checking penalty was a questionable call, but Andreoff and Shore's penalties were inexcusable. Just like last season, the Kings are throwing away games because they can't stay out of the penalty box. Even if they kill the chance, they've forfeited any momentum they gained prior to taking the penalty.
Aside from Zatkoff and Brown, I thought everyone in the lineup had an all-around good game. Stay out of the box, remember that there are more than two periods in a game, and the wins will come. |

(frank) brown and king!
I'm not saying kings played terrible, But does this really look like a cup winning team to you?
Too slow, not much of a scoring threat and with Quick out, good luck with that. As much as I would love a postseason run to the cup finals, this team just does not look good enough. |

Last season, the Kings were 0-3 before putting together the 2nd best regular season in Kings history. Granted, they choked down the stretch, but it shows that the possibility is still there. Yes, the Kings are 0-3, but every game thus far has been an improvement over the last. I'm not worried yet. If the Kings have only 5 or 6 points after 10 games, then I'll start to worry. |

They don't have quick. You better start to worry.
I wouldn't care If they had quick, but zatkoff and bugaj, good luck with that!

The Kings style of play does not require elite goaltending. They can win with mediocre goaltending. Tonight's performance won't cut it, but I think if Zatkoff and/or Budaj can perform like the game against San Jose, then we'll be fine. |

I agree with this except for King, his puck handling reminds me of the kids playing between periods at staples. He has his moments but he looked lost last night |

I don't think King had a bad game. He was instrumental in clogging the crease on Kopitar's goal. He's never going to be an exceptional puck handler, but that's not his game. If you expect that out of him, you're going to be disappointed.

I hear you but last night i saw him like i nevet have. He and brown were terrible. Brown was out of control on half hos entries and king on at least 2 occasions was terrible and turned it over unnecessarily. I have always been an advocate of King but to me he stood out as being pretty sucky |

Yeah, I'm pissed quick is basically done for the year. That last minute of the first period of the first game may have destroyed any hopes of making the playoffs. I know it's early but still. This team needed great goaltending to steal some games this year and with 2 career backups in net that goes out the window. Maybe if they get away from the big bodied slow style of play they would have a chance. This team needs to find ways to get speed in the lineup in the next few season or we'll be watching other teams march to the cup as it used to be. Kings got their asses handed to them by the sharks and Chicago in years past because the speed just killed them. Oh, and get rid of sutters old time hockey theory out of here. Teams have found ways around that style of play it seems like with the past 2 seasons ending with only 1 playoff win. Frustrating
Yes, I'm not happy with what Ive seen. Even though they played well, for the most part in 2 of the 3 games. Kings needed Quick in net. |

I hear you and don't disagree. This is why many of us had problems with this team well before training camp, despite being told here that, if the defense is strong, if they ride Quick, if the stars carry the offense, if the young players step up and if there are no significant injuries, everything will be alright. That's a whole lot of "ifs," and the rest of us know that one or more things will nearly always go wrong, no matter what team you are.
The Kings' problem in this regard is that they have little room for error. They can weather one issue, like losing Quick, if everything else goes as well as it could, but more than one issue at a time is problematic. When you're counting on top-5 defense and your star players carrying the offense just to keep your head above water, there's no breathing room. It's not like the Kings have quality talent left that could come in and give the team a much-needed boost and take some of the burden off of existing players like Toffoli did. They traded those such prospects and picks away in recent years. What they have left may be able to hang in the NHL, but are very unlikely to be needed difference makers this season (if ever).
Of course, you also have the whole problem of lack of speed, as you noted. Typically, you add speed by bringing in youngsters, but, again, the Kings have very few of those types of young players left. Dowd isn't fast; Shore isn't fast; Mersch isn't fast; Forbert isn't fast. We've been told that they "fit the Kings' style" and that's even better, but that just means that they fit the slowness of the rest of the lineup. Kempe is about the only hope for adding real speed to the lineup, but he's just one player and unlikely to be a difference maker any time soon. |
