Three final four appearances (2 x Jays, 1x Raptors) over the past year in a bit means we do have good sports team in our city.

To put things into perspective, if I was to tell you the following back in the dog days of August, what would you think?

4 of a possible 6 points with no regulation losses;
Matthews 5 points in 3 games;
Nylander 4 points in 3 games;
Marner 2 points in 3 games;
Rielly with a 3-game point streak, longest in his career so far;
all rookie skaters with at least a point, and a whole lot of them playing too;
Zaitsev looking exactly as advertised, NHL-ready.

I didn't see the third period, but found the game changed the second they called Matthias's penalty. The Leafs started to play tentatively defensively after that. Yes the Leafs had the 2 pp goals, but then I think Hyman got called (some Leaf may not have been him) on a cheap hooking call, one he and his linemates had gotten away with in the first few games, as a makeup I guess...the Leafs up to that point were using their sticks a lot to gain position on Jets players, and then stopped likely out of fear of getting penalties.

The Jets definitely watched the video of Matthews, Nylander, Hyman from the sens game, and i say this because the kids tried the same moves on the Jets that they did on the sens when they were forechecking in the neutral zone, and defensive zone and the jets simply did the reverse of what the sens did. Plus the Jets are bigger than the sens.

Andersen looked great the first two periods...but the goals I watched in the highights in the third, as I've said, his blocker was weak, and as Lou said, he was coming out too far.

Laine does look like a young Teemu.

By his play, maybe. Physically I still maintain that he looks like the bastard child of Draco Malfoy and Pepe the frog...

Once he shaves his head (and accepts his baldness) he'll look more like Sundin.

I thought the call on Rielly was AWFULLY weak. Sucked having the best defender taken out. I'd like to see it again to get a better look but that's probably impossible to find.

exactly correct... and I'm sure this will bring the usual bandwagon wannabees crawling out of the post Jays loss depression soup... to complain that the cup is "only 3/4 full"

try remembering "there will be pain" and perhaps for about a period of one month... lets not sound like Berger Simmons or Cox after every game.

the sky is not falling - its the leaves.

The call was the right one on Rielly but before that the refs let a blatant trip on Nylander and a hook on Kadri go. Inconsistency.

Terrible calls. The worst calls. Make officiating great again.

Realistically the officiating might have been so so but the Leafs had a mighty hard time maintaining possession throughout the entire game. Ain't gonna get too many wins like that.
