For Gardiner it's accountability, he has and I will say this for the hundredth time, zero hockey IQ when it comes to defensive decisions, the bad pinching has got to stop. It's not just once a game, it is several times that lead to great scoring chances against.
- LeafMan

It is that I so often see him lost in our zone, literally, nowhere near the play and nowhere near the winger on the off side. Like I watch him and I wonder what the hell he is thinking? What is he trying to prevent or accomplish?

I think you are right. It is just zero hockey sense.

... and his offense is not good enough by far to make up for that defense.

So Dmitri Sokolov who dropped like a (frank)ing stone in last years draft has 8 goals in 7 games for the first place Wolves. Maybe playing on a poop team shouldn't warrant a massive drop in the draft?

I'd call you a DELUSIONAL LOAFS fan
- twiztedmike

I would have said Laffs, as in "Gravyface is a delusional Laffs fan." I think Laffs is much more funny than Loafs and it really hurts me when trolls say it.

Maybe they should flip Komarov and Hymen. Might help out that line. Although I really Hymen's work ethic.
- LeafMan

I like his work ethic also, but I have to admit, I think he holds back Nylander and Matthews.

As much as I don't have a lot of faith in him. I think you need to go with him in Chicago. You have to go with a clear starter until you think the sample size is large enough that you need to make a different decision on how to divvy up games. Also, because of Andersen missing most of training camp, you need to give him a chance to catch up before evaluating.

As much as that game ended in the worst possible way last night I am giving it a solid Meh.

This is a young team that needs to grow and learn, these losses are going to happen.

On a positive not I'll take 4 points in 3 games (2 of them on the road) and still no regulation loss.

So we can draft them both and sign them to a deal where they have a silly clause that says they can only be traded together and then we get stuck with them for years and years making it ever so close to winning a cup but never managing to not choke and then try to trade them but can't because of the aforementioned contract clause and basically be unable to start a rebuild so we try to rebuild on the fly and sign players to bad contracts that are gonna hurt us for many years down the line?

Could of easily been 3-0 but 4 of possible 6 points is great.

I think this team has been better than a lot of us thought. But wherever they finish in the standings there's going to be some rookie games last night. They got to learn from that.

Agreed.

If they play lights out this year I could see them challenging for, but not making the playoffs.

I expect they'll be a bottom 10 team this year.

If I set my expectations low I won't be disappointed.

The 4 goal game for Matthews has been the best/worst thing to happen through the first 3 games.

Not at all...

I don't like him. I believe he will ultimately be as bad as Bernier and I am being honest about his performance in net, without the leafs homer glasses on.

But I do recognize that it is too early to make a decision.

The original question was whether or not to play him. Absolutely you do. You signed him for 5x5 you need to give him a big chance to catch up from training camp and a good sample size before you start benching him for poor performance.

The only Cup the Pilon twins have a chance at winning is the Kelly Cup...that's the ECHL Cup right? Maybe? Whatever.
