Was it you that mentioned the sabres made a call to the flames over the summer?
Seeing a few things on twitter today that a team called regarding dougie hamilton. Seemed to be a short conversation but calls were made - yen6d1
I heard chatter with the Flames for Lance Bouma, LW
that died down when Foligno signed

But there's a HUGE difference between Trouba & Lindholm
Trouba wants to be traded. And if someone signed him to an offersheet, the Jets have 10mil in Cap room & could easily just match.
With Lindholm...
the Ducks have essentially zero Cap Space.
If he signed an offersheet & they wanted to match, they'd have to trade Fowler AND another significant salary to make room
And they wouldn't be able to take back any salary
And they'd get very little return bc teams would know they're desperate
The Ducks are in a horrible spot
I don't really see a way out of it that's ideal for them
Their best chance at a good return is probably trying to trade Lindholm
And I know offersheets are taboo for some reason
But I'm still surprised no one has taken advantage of the situation they're in - jdfitz77
I wasn't saying that the Trouba situation is the same. Just pointing out that teams have options if they're looking for help at D.
I'm not sure, but I would think that an offer sheet at this point in the year also doesn't work the same way. Think back to the Calgary ROR offer sheet. For whatever reason, he would have had to go through waivers (can't remember why) so maybe now that the season has started that has something to do with it. I could also be completely wrong about how that works as well. It's just something I remember them saying back when that happened.

we can't afford him

Yes we can
Kane on LTIR
Dump Franson &/or Gorges
Even if we have to sweeten the deal
If it's for a Top Pair defenseman, you make it happen
There's moves that can be made |

I think you're right about that
But I also believe that got realized & then corrected, so I don't think that weird loophole exists anymore
It's just weird the Ducks haven't done anything yet
You gotta think Lindholm is getting pissed just sitting around |

the teams I just listed are the ones that can take on franson or gorges for picks/prospects
teams either have next to no cap, or the ones that have a bunch of cap |

Are you serious? Who the hell would take Franson and Gorges? Oh right nobody. No moves like that will happen with us. We are not getting Lindholm, end of discussion. Lindholm is stuck. |

LTIR only works for when the player is actually out. As soon as they come back, you have to find space for them again. LTIR only really means much if guys are going to be out a whole year (like McCormick). Overall, yes, they save a bit of $$ depending on how long they're on it, but it's not really a solution that you can use to "make room" for another signing or anything like that. |

Not saying it would be super easy for us...
but certainly possible
Unless Murray just doesn't think Lindholm is the right guy?

Hence why I said "sweeten the deal"
MUCH worse contracts have been moved
And I didn't say we would get Lindholm
Just that it's possible to move some things around & do it
And that I'd like us to do so |

Ducks GM Bob Murray certainly seems stubborn to trade with. He still hasn't moved Fowler and imo asked for too much. Not a good situation there. |

No, I saw it. My reading comprehension is just fine. But again, that's not super easy. My guess would be Murray hasn't just sat around saying, "Oh look, Lindholm still hasn't been signed yet" and then done nothing in regards to it. A good GM calls and kicks the tires on things. I would imagine that Anaheim's asking price is high. And like other people have mentioned, the offer sheet thing really doesn't happen that often, mostly because in order to get someone to sign one you don't think the other team would match, you have to grossly overpay the player in the first place. An offer sheet isn't free. There's consequences and maybe the GMs don't want to give up the assets that would end up going back the other way. |

That's fair
I just feel like teams are really missing out by not taking advantage of the Ducks here
And I personally like Lindholm quite a bit
Till something happens with him,
I'm just gonna keep my fingers crossed & hope Murray will go after him |

I don't know - the comp is only a First, Second, & Third Round Pick all the way up to 7.5Mill, and as much as I would love to acquire Lindholm, and would give up those picks to get him, he doesn't deserve $7.5 Mill, much less more than that.
I'm not saying Murray (or anybody else) can get it done because I can't picture where Franson or Gorges would go, but it does make my mouth water. |
