Depth... - buffalofan19
Which is why I think it's fair to at least be slightly concerned.
I would have Grant and D-lo ousted for guys with some real potential like Baptiste, Bailey, Fasching (I know he was in last night) or even Nylander. |

Why don't they try him on defense, obviously his puck skills are lacking and he is not cutting it as a forward.
See if he can be Robyn Regher light of some sort. |

As frustrating as that loss was, they're still doing what they need to do with Eichel out: tread water.
This loss doesn't alarm me, not yet. It's October, where all sorts of weird things happen in the NHL.
It's still a game that good teams figure out how to win, though. This one falls on coaching, which is a very big part of being a good team. |

They have picked up 2 points in 1 of 5 games. That's barely treading water IMO.
We were on 5 days rest, against a backup, against a team that played the night before.
Even with Eichel back, we will have other injuries to overcome throughout the year. Gotta string together some wins |

Gotta agree with you here.... Giving up 3 goal leads is like a brick in the water... Not treading water... |

Sometimes this Sabres board is embarrassing... Some people here need medication, Seriously.
Jack is a bust cause he is hurt.... So I guess McDavid was a bust last year when he got hurt?? Thought so.

When I saw the preseason rankings and so many people pick us for last in the league, I couldnt understand what they were looking at.Boy...looks like they really got it right.
This is gonna be a LONG winter. - Ripped Fuel
You're right, I can't believe how well Toronto, Winnipeg, Phoenix, and Carolina have taken off in the standings with their rebuilds. They've really left us behind in the dirt.

Yea there's nothing here that would be cause for concern. The core players are getting it done, the lack of depth is showing. It's about what youd expect for a team that lost pretty much all of its speed up front.
The only thing Id point out is there still awful play 5 on 5. Yes special teams matters but a majority of the game is played at 5 on 5 and we're still getting crushed in that area. They've got some decent puck possession players they should take the time to figure out what could work for them 5v5 instead of collapsing into a park the bus formation that became obsolete in soccer a decade ago |

I know, which makes all the more sense to see if he can be a better d-man that he is forward. |

I get what you're saying, because trust me, I'd rather see some of those guys play as well. But really, do you think Bailey, Baptiste, Fasching or Nylander are guys that should be on a 4th line only getting 5-8 mins of ice time a night?
Those are all guys with a much higher skill set and they're all guys who are still developing their skills. If you just plug them in in D-Lo's spot, you're not doing yourself or them any favors. |

They chased the backup.
Honestly, my biggest issue last night is with that Kulikov hit. It was stupid in about 12 different ways. It fired up Philly and gave them the boost they needed to get through the last 5 or so mins of the game. |

I loved the hit.
The Ref's calling a penalty is my issue.
Keep your head up and you don't get hit like that. |

I would spread them, spread them all out.
You can't win in today's NHL with 1 line scoring. It's too easy for opponents to shut down one line for a game, period, shift etc.
Put ROR, Reinhart, and Okposo on 3 different lines, get a speedy winger for each line, whether that's Gionta, Baptiste, Bailey, Ennis.

It's questionable. And I don't mind the hit so much as the timing of it. Philly had finally gotten one by Nilsson. You had like 5 mins left in the game and still had a 2 goal lead.
Did Voracek deserve it? Absolutely. But was it the smartest thing to do at that exact moment? Probably not. |

my big problem, is Murray is standing pat
there was a handful of players on waivers, he could have taken a flier on 1 or 2
my other problem is the coach waited til the 5th game to put reinhart on the dot and try to get 3 lines instead of 2 lines and blah |

I get what you're saying. And Bylsma does try and do that for the most part. It's why he starts every line out by trying to find a pair of guys that work well together and then he plugs someone else in as the 3rd.
Being that things haven't exactly worked for them so far with Eichel and Kane down, and the obvious need for some extra speed, I think it's crazy that they don't have Baptiste up here right now. But if they're going to bring him back up, he needs to get more than the 7:19 of ice time he averaged over 2 games. If he's not going to be on at minimum the 3rd line, he shouldn't be here at all. |

I really don't have a problem with that game last night ... well, other than the penalty on Kulikov for a legal hit, and then the no-call on Simmonds for hacking Kulikov but calling the high stick on Reinhardt (which was a legit penalty). Oh, and the goalie interference on the tying "goal". Regardless of the outcome, it was a fun game to watch and I'm OK with the loser point on the road. Why ? No Lehner, no Eichel, and no Kane. So despite all of the things that went wrong, we earned a point. There's many many more games left. I'm not worried. We'll be OK when Eichel and Kane are back. Not throwing in the towel on this season. |
