that was also a deep team offensively. Briere, Carter, Gagne, Giroux, Hartnell, Richards and JVR. that's pretty solid. Pronger, Timonen, Carle and Coburn was a very good top 4. the bottom 2 was a hot mess of course. - nastyflyergirl
That team was stacked....
Richards, Carter, Briere, Giroux, Leino, Hartnell, JvR, Gagne, Lappy, Betts, Asham, Carcillo, Powe on offense.
Pronger, Timonen, Carle, Coburn on D. If only they had added Meszy then..... |

Apparently, professional basketball begins tonight. And the Sixers are playing a top team with their Super Rookie joining crippled, taking the place of former crippled super rookie. 30 point loss? |

People keep saying this, but Cousins did well in his 30 games last year. He could be the ONLY respectable 3C on this roster, if he'd only get a chance this season. I just take issue with the idea there there's simply nothing to be done, and PEB is as good an option as any for 3rd line center. He's not and doesn't have to be. - Mononoke
Cousins would be my choice, but I'd still prefer someone better. IMO, Cousins is a somewhat skilled 4th line agitator on a Cup contender |

No, I'm understanding what you're saying perfectly. PP structure isn't that complicated. You don't want the high slot completely open. That's bad structure. That makes it real easy for the PK defenders to attack the players on the perimeter and the points, who have the puck, without the threat in the middle. You want that slot presence to hold the attention of the defenders. The guy sliding in from the side in most cases won't get there in time, and is much easier for the defenders to screen and block them from getting to the net. It will also hurt Schenn's ability to be able to get to all sides and dig out loose pucks, which he is so good at. It's one of the underrated aspects of their PP success. - MJL
So the traditional umbrella setup is bad structure?
It's time to put the 1-3-1 to bed. |

I think having the slot open, is bad structure, absolutely. In today's NHL, the way teams like to pressure the puck, it makes it too easy. I think you're completely wrong that it's time to put the 1-3-1 to bed. The Flyers PP sits at 26.9%, and they just scored 3 PP goals last night in the 3rd period to tie the game, and eventually win it.

Fine. Mason and AMac for Muzzin, Toffoli, and a 1st. LA says no. Phone hangs up.
Mason is the first legit #1 goalie the Flyers have had since Roman Cechmanek. He's been among the league leaders in 5v5 Save% since he became a Flyer. They finally have stability at that position. I'm not giving him up for rental parts because some teams says please. - jmatchett383
So, you like Steve Mason, I take it? He has been better than OK. And better than Neuwirth over the last 7 games. It was Neuwirth that carried us at season's end last year. Mason has been rather streaky. (As have they both). Both are UFA's at year's end. Mason is at the heights of his value TODAY to a team that needs him. |

Neuvirth was injured at the end of last year, Mason was the one who played like 12 straight games and got us in. Mason had a bad playoffs, but was the reason we made it.
Mason is their #1 unless he reverts back to his later CBJ days. If LA wants him, they'll have to overpay, ridiculously.
Mason has actually been fairly consistent during his Flyers tenure. Even during 14/15, he put up good numbers, and when you realize the piss poor defense he's had for the better part of his tenure, that's even mor eimpressive.
Neuvirth had a very nice (yet, also, very uneven) year last year. But Mason has shown he can put up good numbers playing the lion's share of games. Neuvirth has not. Unless someone ridiculously overpays for one of them, Ikeep them both in case of injury this year.
Edit: FWIW, the height of Mason's trade value was immediately following his rookie season. |

Exactly. Unless LA gives us one of Doughty, Muzzin, Kopitar, or Toffoli (which they won't) for Mason, he's more valuable on the Flyers than as trade bait. |

I thought Mason got hurt and Neuwirth held down the fort.
