Well I saw him benched in the playoffs last year. Doesn't usually happen with # 1 goaltenders. - PLindbergh31

So.
Weise, Raffl, Laughton, Gordon, Bellemare, Luby, and VDV. You need to make a bottom 6 group. Go. - jak521

Corey Crawford was benched during the first round in 2015. He clearly was not their #1 goaltender that postseason...right? I mean, no way they'd win anything that postseason with a scrub like him in net.
Matt Murray was benched for Game 5 of the ECF last year. Pittsburgh clearly did not win anything with him last postseason.
So that's the last 2 seasons. Should I stop now or keep going? |

Because no #1 goalies get replaced in the playoffs. Not even ones that win the Stanley Cup

Konecny gets only one shift in OT? that's silly imo.
VV and bellemar. What value do they add to the team? |

Bellemare is decent 4th line player. VDV couldn't sniff the ice on 60 point Oilers teams. |

Bellemare is a solid role player.
Vandevelde to me provides little. |

And TVR couldn't crack out dreadful d-corps a few years back in camp, but played top-5 minutes of Chicago's Cup winner.
Not disagreeing, just saying that it happens. |

Vandevelde is pretty much Claude Giroux, just without red hair and most of his hockey-related skills. |

Let's not forget Giroux's hit either. That was pretty (frank)ing dumb, last second turn or not. |

My point was going into the season it seemed Hakstol might be leaning toward Neuvirth playing the lions share of games, hence starting him opening night. Mason has played better than Neuvirth so far this season. I prefer Mason. I think Mason is the more proven consistent goaltender. |

He needs to get some of Voraceks fire. He hasn't been the player we need him to be for awhile now.
I still wish we had Jagr, losing him really brought Giroux down point wise. |

Vandevelde receives a lot of criticism, and the coach is accused of favoritism by playing Vandevelde. To me it's pretty simple. The player, although certainly limited, brings the same consistent and reliable play, every game. He's always in the right position, plays within the system, and rarely makes a mistake to hurt the team. Coaches value that in a player. I'm not saying that he can't be improved upon, and that spot upgraded, but that's why he's in the lineup. For now. - MJL
But he shouldn't be in the lineup when the Flyers have players that replace and upgrade him |

The first 2 years after Jagr left, Giroux scored 48 points in 48 games and 86 points in 82 games. I don't think it's Jagr. I agree I would have liked to keep him, but I don't think you can directly attribute Giroux's production to him. |

I think that was just looking too far into it. Maybe not. It could have been a reward for the playoffs or just felt he was playing better at the time. Or Kept Mason on a different schedule due to all the back to backs. Either way it is making something out of nothing.
The Flyers have two good goalies, and whoever is playing better over a period of time will get the starts. |

I thought Jagr was here for girouxs 90 point season. I was off just a few years..
Feels like just the other day Jags was here. Couldn't pay Jagr but we found a way to pay AMac. Makes me angry. |
