Wtf kind of dvr stops recording before the show/event is over? Even my 11 year old DirecTV box knows how to record until the event ends. - Scoob
im not sure what it is, but when I had Comcast it would just stop recording shows at random times
Never seemed to be able to go a full 60 minutes...maybe that is the Flyer's problem |

If your 4th line is breaking even, then you're in good shape. If your top line isn't getting it done, then you have a big problem. Thinking that inserting a different player for Vandevelde is going to mean that players like Simmonds don't have to do as much, doesn't make sense. Vandevelde is not a waste of space, that's hyperbole. If he was, he wouldn't be on the team. I'm in agreement that they can upgrade that spot, but as outlined previously, Vandevelde has some value as a player, which is why Hakstol apparently trusts him. - MJL
Your right about Vandevelde. It isn't an issue until it is. If that makes sense.
I am disappointed in Simmonds. I know he has scored some goals but to me he has been very out of control and just not playing a smart game. He seems to want to carry the puck more and make plays. That's not his game. Get to the net, cause havoc, finish goals.
Again though it is still early. Things will work themselves out. |

Kulikov does have a "history" and agreed it was a penalty.
Dont go in the Garth thread. There are sheep defending the hit, much like any fanbase has those people that blindly do so and think the league is out to "get them" - ImThatGuy

Remember when folks wanted to trade Mason and give Neuvy the job full-time? That was fun, right?
It's not a bad thing to have two good goaltenders. - johndewar

Vandevelde is a goal waiting to happen with little to no offense. He could have perfect position on every play, it doesn't matter because it doesn't equal anything tangible to the Flyers winning.
Hakstol trusts him to a fault. It is a flaw that can be corrected, and if it were it would help the Flyers. The situation has nothing to do with Wayne Simmonds - YuenglingJagr
I agree, the situation has nothing to do with Wayne Simmonds. Then why did you bring up other players maybe having to do less, in your previous post?
Secondly, while I agree that Vandevelde doesn't bring much offense, stating that he is a goal waiting to happen, is untrue. Even with little to no offense last season, he was only -7 on the season.

I think Laughton needs to go to LHV to get some ice time.
And I agree; I'd rather see Cousins at 3C and Bellemare back to 4LW. - johndewar
I agree with you on Laughton. I don't see any way that he will just jump into the lineup when he's healthy. |

I could see it if they keep Cousins on the wing. He hasn't been effective there and if they keep wanting to play Bellemare at 3rd center than I could see Laughton over Cousins on the wing.
I don't agree with it but could see it. |

Because a useful 4th line provides a chance at actually scoring and not just skating around trying to keep the puck out of the net. If the 4th line scores, other lines don't have to. More goals for the 4th line = more goals for the Flyers. What is difficult to understand here? |

Buffalo controlled play in OT. Not surprising he got one shift. - dragonoffrost
If by controlled you mean skated around aimlessly with the puck and frequently passed it back to their goalie, then yes, they controlled OT.
Honestly, I wasn't impressed with the Flyers play in OT either. They seemed rather aimless, too, without a plan. |

My point was going into the season it seemed Hakstol might be leaning toward Neuvirth playing the lions share of games, hence starting him opening night. Mason has played better than Neuvirth so far this season. I prefer Mason. I think Mason is the more proven consistent goaltender. - PLindbergh31
I prefer Mason as well. I'd love to keep both but that isn't going to happen. |

I guess that is possible. Wiese will return tomorrow night. I would assume he will be replacing Lyubimov. Small sample, but I haven't been very impressed with him. |

Raffl needs to be kept away from the top line. Lets get some players who are closer to the skill level Giroux has.
It's ashame we're so weak on the LW. Need to find someone to compliment Giroux better while also being able to be a threat without the hand holding. - MikesPillBottle
I hear you, but Raffl has worked well with G and Jake in the past. With this lineup you have legit threats to score on 3 lines and it makes them harder to match up against |

Nope it won't happen. And being that it won't it would probably be a good idea to trade Nuevirth so at least you get an asset for him. You would think the Kings could be interested in him with Quick being out long term. |

I know Jake was off the ice for this, but B Schenn should be standing here on the PP always, not stranded in the high slot like a doofus:
He scored so many goals in Brandon like that... his shot > Jake's shot. |

Ignoring the cliche of using the Penguins as a model....
Mike Sullivan comes in and uses young 4th liners from WBS, whom he is familiar with and trusts. Does the 4 line depth of the Penguins happen if a coach isn't in place that trusts them?
Hakstol isn't the only coach to share in this flawed idea. Plenty of coaches trust veterans over younger players even though the younger players are more skilled and bring elements that cannot be offered by the veteran players. The Penguins showed how rewarding adding skill and letting it do its thing can be.
Biggest problem or not, there is no point to playing guys who arent as good as others |

Couldn't you just as easily skate the puck out to the NZ instead of passing it 200 feet backwards? - jmatchett383
First time there's a bad hop resulting in an own-goal that dumb "strategy" will stop. |

Control of the puck in 3v3 is a strategic play. You keep the puck until something breaks down on the opposition then you take advantage and attack. Many teams in the NHL use that strategy in OT. It is counter to what you want to think you should do but it actually makes sense when you consider what typically happens if you go full attack mode.
Full attack mode leads to pond hockey OT which people love but really isn't smart since you keep giving odd man rushes. |

Whether you put tons of pressure on the other team or play very passively, the only thing that matters is when the defense breaks down or the goalie doesnt make a save. Buffalo's defense was the one that actually broke down, despite them playing very passively |
