Would unclog the lane for Ghost's point shot too... right now w/ Schenn and Simmer stacked vertically, there's like 4-5 players standing between Ghost and the net.
Jake could still play the right wall, just have Schenn and Simmer at either post and move in/kick out depending on which side of the ice the puck is on.
That Hartsy one-time play is just dead. - Tomahawk
It's dead simply because Schenn hasn't finished. There have been plenty of opportunities. With Schenn and Simmonds off to the side, that would make it easy for the PK defense to keep the lanes clear, and the goalie to have clear sight lines. Gostisbehere has a good shot, but like any player, he is rarely going to score from the point on a shot, if the goalie can see it. Traffic at the net, for screens, deflections, rebounds, and lucky bounces is the way to go.

I've seen the beats claim on twitter that 11/5 is the earliest MDZ can come off LTIR and play because there's a minimum period of 24 days, but on CF the retroactive date is 10/7 (and 10/6 for Laughton). Which would mean he could come back for the games on 11/2 and 11/3, if he's fully healthy by then.

Simmonds to me just seems to be really good when on and really bad when he isn't on. just very extreme - nastyflyergirl
Yep, no middle ground. The effort is always there though.

What is the standard for judging who isn't as good as another? Is it talent, or is it a fans preference? It's not at all a flawed idea if it's looked at correctly. I see fans miss this many, many times. - MJL
The Pens are bad example. They have Phil Kessell on the "3rd line". They have talent throughout the lineup. The Flyers are not there yet. They are getting there though.
Look back to when the Flyers went to the finals. Giroux was a point per game player on the 3rd line. Depth is key. The bottom 6 for the Flyers needs more talent. The top 6 is good and needs to be better ES. When the bottom 6 gets more talent and top 6 are good/great ES then the Flyers will start winning some series. |

Agreed. The less the goalie sees the less he stops. A majority of goals in the playoffs are "dirty" goals. |

Completely agree. In the mean time, the Flyers are not a team that tanks. They try to win while trying to develop for the future. The coaches main job, is to try and win. |

Which I like. You do not need to tank in the NHL to get good. Just keep your picks and draft well. |

Is there a #fancy graph of Provorov's turnovers by game? Would be interesting to watch as the season moves along. |

Name the realized results that would be the criteria. Wins? Goals? Talent is easy, any fan can see that there are players that are more talented than Vandevelde. |

You're absolutely right. I don't like our 5 on 5 game at all. TBH, it's gotten a little better with the emergence of Konecny's line. Man has that kid impressed me. I know he scored last night, but he was also involved in numerous chances. He's creative and pushes the play. That's what we need from each line. The issue to me is we need a bit more size on the wings. We tend to get our smaller guys thrown down by big d in the O zone and then it's an easy clear. Obviously, our D is not perfect right now (slower, smaller breaking in a rookie) and we get hemmed in quite often and teams with big forwards like Anaheim drive us insane.
Add these up, and your 5 on 5 is bound to stink/you live and die on the Pp. We won't go far in the playoffs until this is addressed, but I am sure Hexy knows it's a problem. - Hextall271

If you're tired and need a stoppage. Just play with 4 guys, have 1 stand in the OZ, and pass it to him. Standard, legal play. |

Perhaps the PK not being in the bottom 5-10 in the league. I know VDV is one of 8-10 players that kill penalties during a game but he offers -0 in any other aspect of the game.
Can't wait for the day when he is no longer an option. |

the offense he provides - the defense he provides = - YuenglingJagr
The coach to this point has felt that the defense he provides, and consistency he provides within the team structure, is worthy of having him in the lineup. Right or wrong. I think most fans aren't looking at it correctly. The Flyers are a playoff bubble team, which means there is a fine line between winning a losing. In that case, that means that you have players who might not do much to help you win, but they help you not to lose. If Hakstol and or Hextall felt like Taylor Leier or any other player would help them win more, I think they'd be in the lineup. Hopefully at some point in the near future, that happens. Until then, the coaches job is put the lineup on the ice, that he feels is best for the team. |
