Im genuinely curious what makes you think they were solid. Even eye test level most would tell you they gave up a ton of shot attempts, turnovers, poor passing etc. |

jake McCabe lead the team with a plus-six as a rookie last season...most of his ice-time was with Bogosian...I watched how they played with and covered for each other last year and they had great chemistry...were the second pairing on the ninth-best pk unit in the league...imo, y'all are way to consumed with bogo... |

I'm to assume you are talking about the next HC, right? If so, I would go for either Motzko or Quinn but I would lean a bit toward Motzko. Frankly, the next HC just might be in the organization currently.

McCabe's not the problem. Defensively that pairing gave up way too much against. Id keep them apart and give bogo more Ozone time. |

Could very well be. Guessing they stick with Bylsma though. |

just wondering what new, fresh ideas a college coach can bring to the nhl-level...
for my money the next head coach of the buffalo sabres, if that's what it comes down to in the future, should be phil housley |

If we are still stinking it up by the end of next month I hope GMTM realizes that Bylsma is putting our rebuild in jeopardy..
Even ROR said last night that the team shouldn't be in this position at this point in the rebuild.. |

You mean other than ability to manage young talent, no previous biases and perhaps a third period strategy that doesnt make us want to vomit, right?
Doesn't have to be a college coach, its just a thought. |

way too much what?...shots?
and if that's the case, where did those shots come from?...who was on the ice at the time?...was there a turnover?...if so, by whom?...what was the game situation?...where was the faceoff...who won the faceoff?...who won a battle, who lost a battle...
there are so many variables...
that's what kills me about the statement that the team is better with risto on the bench, a statement stat-nerd Schopp just brought up...y'all are killing me with those fancy stats |

I agree that it was a pitiful performance last night and coaching had a lot to do with it...I won't do the research, and this isn't a poke at you so don't take it personally, but who was the last college coach, or even a coach outside of nhl organizations won a cup or even made it to the conference or Stanley cup finals? |

If the fancy stats guys (95% of them who swear allegiance to the leafs) actually looked deeper theyd realize its not true but on your first paragraph...
Not just shots. Shot attempts, zone time, high danger scoring chances(re: where they came from) Failed attempts to clear the zone (that ones all bogo and could tell you that using the eye test) low zone exit rates/failed transition attempts. And this all usually comes when the faceoff is in our end which is why I think if you gave him less Dzone starts and more ozone starts youd see a good change in his numbers. |

Off the top of my head so dont hold me to it but I believe the pens coach in the early 90's used to be a long time coach for wisconsin or denver or something like that. |

I would have to think Bylsma will be here for the season. What they will do in the off season is anyone's guess. Ward, Woods and Lambert are all more than qualified if they wanted to promote from within. |

I'm beginning to hate possession stats...not the fact that they're useful in some situations, but the way they're thrown around by average joes who think they're a head scout (like Schopp)...
I get it...I get all those things and i'm not saying Bogosian is the second coming of drew doughty...the original point was that he and McCabe have chemistry and played well together...from what I've seen they've been the most consistent pairing for the team since last season...

This is relative though because the other two pairings shouldnt even exist. Gorges on the top pair is criminal and our bottom pair last year was what weber and one eyed franson?
I do agree with your take on possession stats though, taken out of context they are misunderstood but in a lot of cases the twitter experts will cherry pick and exploit the fact that the average fan doesn't want to or is unable to look deeper. |

The best defense is a great offense. Can't shoot on our net if the puck is in the opposing teams zone. |

actually Pysyk was on that bottom pairing last season a lot...
and, oh, what a surprise, Schopp was talking about his numbers if florida as opposed to Kulikov...
he has a goal and is a plus three playing bottom-pairing minutes for the cats |
