Yes, just like that. It didn't work, but they gave it their best shot, and I commend management for that.

Also, I wouldn't bank on a mid-season callup of Morin, and I wouldn't bank on him being handed a top-6 spot for the rest of the year if he is called up.

- jmatchett383

I do too, who knows what happens if Rask doesn't get sick that final game too. I'm not banking on it, just hypothetically speaking. I also am not banking on Manning consistently keeping this up for a whole 82 game season. But as JBeach has said, it's early long time away and a lot can happen between now and then. Hell Giroux or Couts could suffer a season ending injury and could doom our season turning us far from a playoff team at the TDL.

It kind of depends on who else they are picking from other teams. They will want a good mix of vets with some term and younger players with upside.
- Feanor

It's going to be a juggling act for them, that's true. I'd love to be there when they're discussing what to do and who to pick. It would make a tremendous show for NHLNetwork.

So let's say the TDL is 2 days away, and you're in a playoff spot with a 5 point cushion over the 9th place team. TB calls you up with an offer of a first rounder, likely a 22-30 pick. If you make the trade, your chances of holding onto that spot immediately drop drastically. Do you do it?
- jmatchett383

Isn't that exactly how Tampa got Coburn?

Love the idea. Put it on HBO, I want to hear all the cursing, plus set in Vegas they could capture a lot of silliness.

I think it is a different situation than Coburn, but there are certainly similarities. That is in fact how they got him though.

Yeah, I agree. Even though Hextall claimed that he wanted to give them a chance to make the playoffs, he was selling... I don't think he feels the team is in the same position this season.

it goes beyond that...he saw the state of the cap and the state of the prospect pool

while the coburn trade was awesome, it is a different situation all around now

That was the trade, but the team wasn't in playoff position that year. If they had been, they may not have made the trade.

It would be cool if they did it draft style and went by team alphabetically.

I'm not sure if that was metioned between yesterday and today, but there was a large number of scouts at our game against MTL. Mynhltraderumors reported: Blackhawks had 2, sens, sabers, wild, bolts, flames, Oilers, Devils, panthers, pens, rags, sharks, Vegas, jets, wings, and stars. I wonder if our dmen are being watched

Without having any facts, I'm going to guess there are a lot of scouts at most NHL games, most just aren't recognized. I wouldn't read into this too much. That being said, I'm sure most teams are keeping tabs on the Flyers defensemen.

Yeah I truthfully don't know the extent of having this many scouts at a game this early in the season, nor a typical numbered amount of scouts to watch a game. I honestly can't even remember seeing a report on scouts attending games this early ever. Different story when TDL is closer and specific players are in the rumor mill. Maybe keeping tabs on goalies too.

We're not seriously talking about protecting Brandon Manning, are we? He's played very well and better than the veteran scrubs, but....he's still just a depth role player bottom pairing guy. He's very replaceable. And with the scoring chances he's bleeding against (like last year) and his absurd scoring, it's inevitable he'll be due for some regression. I wanted him in over AMac and Schultz before the season, but let's not get hasty.

Besides, he's expansion fodder. Don't want to expose him? Then AMac has to play almost half the season. And when MDZ enters back in next week or so, there's no room. And then Morin should get a call-up at some point. It's tough logistically and tough to watch. I still highly doubt Vegas is using a valuable selection on a guy fresh from tweener status. Not when we have so many forwards. And I still can't get over all this: let's get rid of MDZ talk and keep Manning! Manning is easily replaceable. MDZ isn't. I don't care about the cost. You get what you pay for.

Need these two points tonight. They are the biggest because scouts will be at this game.

I know but for some reason only the MTL PHL and TB TOR games scouts were reported for the high number of them

I think Manning gets exposed.
I don't think he gets selected.
I don't think Morin should be gifted a call-up unless he's earned it and someone else (Manning/Gudas) needs to sit/is injured.
Unless were are way out of it at the TDL, I would keep MDZ at least until the end of the season.

I am all for keeping MDZ, but his potential asking price scares me off if we can't agree on a number and he walks for nothing. As you said, he isn't easily replaceable so it would certainly hurt to potentially lose him for nothing

Unless we are blown away by an offer (don't ask me for examples, please), I'd keep him if we are in the playoff hunt. Sometimes, you lose players to UFA. If you never let a player become a UFA, you'll never win either.

I know the Flyers aren't a Cup contender this year, but they should be a playoff contender, Keeping MDZ helps them get into the playoffs more than whatever the return would be.

Neither do I. I think he's pretty close to ready, if not there. By the TDL, I don't think there will be any uncertainty. I'm not even sure what he is down there to work on other than nebulous "stuff" AKA too many d men under contract and another rookie d man already on the team.
