I can't believe we are worrying about the (frank)ing expansion draft in October
October

Agreed, as it is the Flyers lose 1 player in the draft, I really think they will be able to survive it |

Neither do I. I think he's pretty close to ready, if not there. By the TDL, I don't think there will be any uncertainty. I'm not even sure what he is down there to work on other than nebulous "stuff" AKA too many d men under contract. - Mononoke
He still has some trouble making quick decisions when he's pressured, from what I saw. I think he's ALMOST ready, but if the team is playing well, I don't think it would be worth upsetting the balance just because we want him to play. Now, if injuries and substandard play warrant it, then fine. But I think it's far from certain that we see him for any prolonged period this season. |

Yup, I'd rather see Morin on the PK more than:
Manning
AMac
Streit
Ghost
Schultz

You know, this sounds crazy, but I think we should consider Ghost for tail ends of PKs. Say there's <20 seconds left and we clear or get a faceoff. The other team is likely going to have more offensively-gifted players out there, and they may have been out for a while. I'd consider throwing Ghost out there to possibly help the transition if we can get possession shortly after the player exist the box. |

I am all for keeping MDZ, but his potential asking price scares me off if we can't agree on a number and he walks for nothing. As you said, he isn't easily replaceable so it would certainly hurt to potentially lose him for nothing - arichardson22
Obviously if he asks for something crazy, it is what he is. But some people don't want him re-signed even on a fair deal for both sides. They just want to trade him. MDZ seems to have found a home here with his teammates and the coaches, who put more trust in him than any coaches he's ever had. He isn't so far off from being a scrap heap d man. It's possible other GMs are still hesitant to give him a big contract. And MDZ might realize that it isn't getting better than what he has here. I think it's very likely a fair deal can be reached, and I don't think Hexy will let him go so easily. |

A 1st, conditional second, and our captain for an aging player who is also his team captain.

He's actually a very good passer under pressure imo. He always had his head up and is looking for the short, controlled exits -- or even the stretch pass if it's open. He is not a chip out kind of guy. He regularly surprises me with his vision, where an inferior d man would easily just get it off the glass and out. One bad turnover in one preseason game shouldn't change that.
Like I said, it's a numbers game. It's just a matter of someone getting traded.

Unless we are blown away by an offer (don't ask me for examples, please), I'd keep him if we are in the playoff hunt. Sometimes, you lose players to UFA. If you never let a player become a UFA, you'll never win either.
I know the Flyers aren't a Cup contender this year, but they should be a playoff contender, Keeping MDZ helps them get into the playoffs more than whatever the return would be. - jmatchett383
I know, which is why I have stated I'm all for keeping him and would like to resign him at the end of the day and that he has a role for our team in the future. But if we get offered a 1st for him with a B prospect, I may have difficulty turning it down with his potential Ufa price, regardless of our positioning because we have guys like Mason and Ghost to resign, and even Simmonds eventually at the same time as TK and Provy are RFAs which MDZ'S contract could impact. Imo, those years are more important than keeping MDZ if it's another first round playoff exits and not resigned. |

While that turnover was atrocious, I'm not basing it on that. In fact, he wasn't really pressured on that as much as he seemed to think he was. He just seemed to have difficulty when he was pressured. Just my 2 cents. |

I'm all for a fair or reasonable resigned deal. I recognize what MDZ brings to this team and he really proved himself last season as a reliable all-around dman for us. Hes still young enough to be a contributing guy for us for many years. And agree about him finding a new home here with us. Not sure how many other teams were interested in signing him when we gave him a chance after Kimmo's clots either, so that could play factor in his heart. |
