I'm sure this falls under "circumvention" but, if needed, I would do this:

Extend Schultz for the veteran minimum for one year. Tell him thayou intend to waive him to Lehigh Valley. However, should he choose, you will agree to mutually terminate the contract on June 30th, making him a UFA on July 1st. This way, he's actually making a little (well, technically, a good amount) of money prior to becoming a UFA, which is what he's set to become with $0 of extra money.

I hope they do actually, I would not protect him and f he gets chosen we can replace with someone for less $$. He has not impressed me really and guys like him are a dime a dozen for 2.5/year. Looks like he could be fourth line material when everyone healthy and the way Read has started. Do we need a 2.5m guy on the fourth line that has already been suspended once in the first three games of the season with no offense.

I think the intent and severity of the hit were the same...thought Weise caught more of his head but Kulikov was more of a charge

If I was Vegas I'd tab Stolarz or Laughton if either are left unprotected.
