Sitting out 80% of a season with what he had to deal with. Quality of life threatening issues. Takes a lot out of you. i speak from personal experience. I wouldn't surprise me if it took 60 games before he completely found his legs again. He had a dynamite 2nd period last night though. That spin move he made. Wow. It wasn't a lazy spin like we've seen him do in the corners, that was in the open ice and we got like 3 high-danger scoring chances out of it. - Wetbandit1

EDIT: that mother (frank)er has plenty of talent at his disposal......the talent is just too busy passing back to the goalie on the 3 on 3 or playing defense for an entire period while trying to defend the most dangerous lead in hockey - feetontheair22
Meh. I think Mike and Dan are both good coaches. I think it's silly to say otherwise
But he drafts guys like Nylander, Asplund, Fitzgerald, Glotov? - sbroads24
Because it's not any one thing that makes a winning team. You need a mix of guys. If you go all small speedsters you can get run over, if you go all big guys, think '06 Flyers you get swarmed like the Sabres did to them with Roy, Briere, Afinogenov, but even that Sabres team had Mike Grier, Peters, Mair, Goose, Hecht... Other than Grier none of those guys were fast at all, but all contributed in one way or another. If they didn't they wouldn't have gone to the ECF. And the blueline was much the same with Campbell, Lydman, Numminen, Tallinder was still a good skater then, and none of those guys, outside of Campbell's hit on Umberger, were thumpers. And then guys like McKee, and Rory Fitzpatrick.
Damn the rules that was a good hit. But if that happened to a Sabres player now I'd be furious, obviously.

That's great, he was really looking like a terrible pick for a 2nd. - sskkoo1
He showed flashes of ridiculous skill in the prospects game this season....you could just see he needed a bit more refining but underneath it all is TALENT

I hope so, we have 7-8 2nd rounders in our system, and Guhle is the only one that really looks solid. Bailey is good, but I'm not as high on him as so many others here. I like him, but I don't see where all the hype is coming from.

I try to watch or listen to as many ND hockey games as I can, from the games I have watched or listened to he has looked/sounded very strong and he is still only a Junior. I think he will be a perfect 3rd line Center.
He just added a primary assist to his point total. 6-2 ND after a couple UCONN goals answered by a ND goal.
IMO biggest needs are top 2 d-man, coach, and round out the bottom half of the roster. I'm also not sold on Murray being the gm to lead us to the promise land. - chilliard77
best assessment I've seen. We may be a bit hair triggerish, but it certainly looks accurate at this time.

Ya me neither....I'm glad u said this cuz i've been "meh" on bailey for a while.....not to say I don't want him to be what everyone wants him to be....but I just don't see it yet..

2nd round picks are rarely good. The leading scorer from the 2nd round from his draft is 7 points in 55 games. Jacob de La Rose for the Canadiens. Although Lehkonen is looking pretty good with 3 in 8.
2011 was a good year with Saad, Jenner, Victor Rask, and Kucherov. Faulk and Toffoli in '10.
Only one guy from '14 is in the NHL. Dvorak in Arizona has 3 points in 6 games.
The entire '15 2nd round has 9 points in 32 games.
And nobody from '16.
They either take a long time to develop, or they don't. Whiffing on a 2nd round pick is by far the rule.

It would be a shame if we put the time in with this kid and after he graduates he flex's his right to become a UFA. that 3-4 line center positions will be a log jam with Larsson, Grigs, Asplund, Esteban, Cornel, and now Hurley

I agree. It's just that we've picked a lot over the past few years, and as of right now we have 2 more coming this year. With our quantity I'd like to see more than just Guhle, and he's not a guarantee yet.

i agree, but things change. They could always add Hurley in a trade or one of the other players you mentioned. and Girgs can always play wing

True. I'm just getting frustrated with this organizations inability to develop the later round picks. Foligno is the last pick (I think) who came from past the second round to be something halfway decent at the NHL level. It seems like other teams have decent success at this and we keep laying goose eggs.
