I said we didn't have to do anything major, like trade Reinhart or Risto. But, yet, go ahead and make a trade, I'm perfectly okay with sending D-lo packing. Hell, I'm okay with firing this coach, he's completely passionless, and more than likely isn't taking this team anywhere while he is at the helm.
We are at a critical point in our juncture, and I've been watching this team for over 30 years, some guys on here have been watching this team since 1970, but a lot of guys here have also haven't seen that many Sabres teams come and go. But, what I'm saying is that I will always support this team, and I'm not trying to tear them down just to get a rise out of people here. But, I do see things that worry me with this rebuild so far. There is a pattern of acceptance throughout the Sabres history that I do not want following over to this new team. Now, that may not be what people want to hear, so I guess we'll just have to have a difference of opinion. But lack of effort and coaching that lets players get away with it is a really bad problem that will kill this rebuild. There's also not knowing how to use players right, or how to properly develop them.
Case in point: Girgensons was what looked like to be a solid winning pick in 2012, big, mean, and determined. He even said only death will keep him from being an impact player in this league. Now, three years into his career he's a ghost of what he was, the leader we once called lioneater who would put himself through a brick wall to make a play. So, what happened? And, if it happened to him, who's next?
I hope I'm wrong, but I do somewhat see the signs of a chit storm on the horizon if the team is not careful with the rest of this rebuild. Others may think things or going swimmingly, but I guess we'll just have to wait to find out. - sskkoo1
Seriously... What do u think trading Deslauriers would accomplish?
We won't get anything back for him
U want more passion...
but your answer is to trade a guy who plays hard?
U just sound like you're grasping at straw to shake things up just bc u don't like how they played a few games
Calm down.
If we still look like this 20games in...
then we've got a problem

Trading D-lo or another bottom six may not accomplish much, but it may send a message. And, Yes, I have acknowledged that we're only six games in, but it's more than that, I see deeper underlying problems that I hope I'm wrong about.
Lehner- we paid a heavy price for but so far as our starter he's only played 25 of a possible 88 games as a Sabre
Grigensons- came in like a beast and now he's a lamb.
Kane- we paid a heavy price for and he's a problem off the ice and easily injured on.
Bogo- we swap essentially Myers for, but at least Myers is a decent #3 maybe #2, Bog is a #4 if not atrocious some nights.
We got rid of McNabb who is playing well in LA along with two 2nds for D-lo who is no better than a waiver wire pick up and Fashing who may only top out at a 3rd line wing.
Reinhart-who is a #2 overall has 2pts.
And, there's many more questionable decisions and actions so far.
There's going to be mistakes and issues in every rebuild, but objectively looking at our rebuild I'm not to sure of the job management is doing any longer. That, doesn't mean we might not still be just fine, but we have issues, and to pretend that everything is still going according to plan is disingenuous.
But, I will digress from here... |

I don't think you'll find anyone on here who says we don't have issues. But I think a lot of us are opposed to the scorched Earth approach that some seem to favor. Firing the coach after one year in the Sabres' circumstances is absurd. If you want to start looking at Murray after this year if no improvement is made I'll listen. Pegula knows making moves(trades, firings of HC and GM) to "shake things up" doesn't usually work too well. Benching underperformers or players who aren't giving enough effort? All for it. But then you'd have a team with ROR, Okposo, Risto, Ennis, maybe McCabe, but he was brutal last night, and that's about it. Everyone else is either not performing and/or not giving it the right effort. |

Yeah, that doesn't do anything. Park Reinhart up in the press box for a game or two. Let him see the game. I mean the kid is in his 2nd year FFS. Let him work through things. They call it a "sophomore slump" for a reason.
They can always can an assistant coach too a la the Bills who went on to rattle off 4 in a row in very convincing fashion. |

give reinhart foligno and gionta
that is the second line
in many ways they demoted reinhart to the 3rd line, which makes no sense
it's like expecting vanek to produce with mair |

That's true Gionta has been good, Foligno has shown flashes and hasn't been bad otherwise, Moulson has been good on the PP but invisible otherwise. |

If we're making good trades, then ok...
I'm fine with that at any point
But Ennis, Kane, Girgensons...
we aren't gonna get good value for them
and it doesn't make sense for me to "sell low"
So let's actually see if they can turn it around
The chance their value goes up significantly is better than seeing it drop significantly, bc they're already low
And Bylsma should be given at least the rest of this year, at least
The guy actually seems pretty smart to me
And I don't need our coach to be a screamer, I need him to be more of a teacher with all these young guys
The guys wearing the letters need to be pushing others & helping motivate them if need be
Bench somebody, bring up a guy for a few nights
Don't just ship guys out for the heck of it though
That's crazy to me

The thing is...
all those problems existed LAST year, and we still improved quite a bit
I get where you're coming from, but I guess what I'm saying is let's let these guys try & work through it
All the guys you've mentioned have shown they can be somewhere between good to great players in the league
Last year,
There were reasons...
injury, new coach/system, tons of new teammates, etc
Now it's a new season
Chemistry should be better, and they should have a better understanding of what Bylsma wants them to do...
so besides the injuries,
Let's see how these guys can progress
And judging that progression after only 6 games just seems crazy quick
So let's all just calm down a bit & see where this goes
There's still a lot of talent here,
And there's gonna be ups & downs...
but overall I still think we're headed in the right direction

I just want to point out that Reinhart had 4 points in 11 games during October last season (1 G, 4 A) and ended up being one of our top goal scorers by the end of the year. Also, he just got moved to a new position a couple of games ago. I think he'll be okay as the year progresses. |

Simply put....we SHOULD NOT have to wait for a #2 overall to "adjust". Laine isn't adjusting. Matthews isn't adjusting. Mcdavid isn't adjusting gudreau isn't adjusting. Marner isn't adjusting. Nylander isn't adjusting. Only OUR GUY is "adjusting "
Reinharts lack of production and absolute lack of leadership and passion is starting to become a problem and is going to set us back 3 years |
