Hey, I like some of the things he's done. Okposo is one of them.
And trust me, when I'm wrong, I'm wrong, happens all the time. I started to change my tune on Kane last year twice, then the All-Star thing happened, then the bar thing happened.
I also loved his draft, and have said it 100 times now, including this morning, but that's not something worth quoting I guess.
We went through the "suffering" phase for one reason, to land a piece to build around. We did that. Now we have to properly build around him. - sbroads24
He's been hit and miss with me. As long as the long term outlook of the team still looks promising ill continue to buy in. If he can land another big piece for the blue line i can look past the rest of the stuff. |

For me, it's 3 pieces, considering we have 0 clue what's up with Kane here long term.
Top 2 D man
Top 6 goal scorer
Top 4 D man.
McCabe is worrying me a tad, just a tad. |

I guess the one thing that really bugs me is the timing for which he chose to be aggressive.
Rather than allow for natural growth of players and then re evaluate later he kind of just turned a bunch of them into a few nhl pieces which on one hand speeds up the rebuild but only if you get it right (as in what you get back is better than what you give up).
So the timing there gets me because this off season he was fairly timid and almost dare i say darcy like with his moves. Solid draft on paper, Kulikov+Asplund is good value and Okposo is good up front. But wheres the big move to put them over the top? Wheres #2 on the blueline?
You're willing to spend a ton on complimentary players months before actually getting eichel but you're shy about moving them for what you would assume if hes done it right would be the final piece to the core? Just my .02 |

The top 6 scorer one i go back and forth with. I feel like this team has enough offensive talent up front because it really shows on the powerplay. Id like them to add another forward but at the risk of being flamed here Id like it to be a strong possession guy. Someone who can create chances, quality chances at 5 on 5 where we really lack it.
Top 2 D-man, well yea i mean hard to argue this one.
Top 4. McCabe worries me a little too but I think if his partner is Risto at less minutes or the new #2 I think that guy can "carry" McCabe or at least make it easier for him. He'll get better on his own too i would think. |

I agree. I think the prices were Crazytown this summer as we saw with Hall Larsson, and with expansion coming up he didn't want to trade for a guy he's going to have to expose. That's obviously speculation, but he did say frequently that he wasn't going to make a move for the sake of making a move, and if the right one didn't come along he wasn't going to make one. And if the rumors were true of the 8th overall for Fowler then I'm glad he didn't. We always thought they weren't going to "go for it" until next year anyway right? Last year we just hoped they got a lot better, and they did, we hoped for them to push for the playoffs this year, that's obviously TBD at this early juncture, they've played some good games against good teams, a stinker against a playoff team(Minnesota), and a couple others that should have been wins, but weren't, and then to really push next year in Jack and Sam's final ELC years with hopefully the last couple pieces.

Agreed. Especially with the natural growth part. And this is half of my gripe with including Armia in the trade, then acting like he was nothing to give up.
He got 1 game here. Instead of evaluating him after a few weeks or even a few games, he was traded at a low point.
Honest question, knowing what we know now, would you take Armia or Girgensons? I think that's an easy one |

See this is where i have the issue. In every big move hes made hes been the one making the calls. I mean how long did we hear O'Reillys name before the deal was made. Kane to a lesser extent as well. Now suddenly hes all "eh lets wait and see"?
I didnt expect them to go all in this year. But thats a different story altogether. I wanted them to complete the core this year, get a winning team on the ice so that next year they're ready to go and you(TM) are more comfortable making the kind of deadline day deals that signal you are all in.
I dont know what the ask for Larsson was in general before Halls name came out, ditto Shattenkirk etc. but it was kind of discouraging to not hear a word of us even asking. And then theres the Faulk rumour posted in here. The opportunities were most likely there. I think the real question is were they worth decimating your prospect pool for? And honestly, for a few of those names I really would have. |

Why pea it even matter at this point?
Armia is long gone
We all knew he was a good prospect
How is it that this trade keeps getting rehashed over & over & over?

I think we need another forward too, hopefully it's one of the guys from Rochester, maybe Nylander makes a Reinhart like jump next year. That would be great.
Yeah.
Could definitely use another defenseman. Doubt it's Guhle, at least next year. Have to wait to hopefully pick one off as expansion gets closer and we start to see what's what. |

OH see there's that too. Girgensons got all kinds of chances and time but Armia was trash the moment TM stepped in as GM. And can't use the darcys trash excuse since they were both his picks. Thats either a talent evaluation error or he just had a pre set opinion of Armia from before he got here (I assume its the latter). |

Ellis, Manson, Braun and i mean its jim benning so ill just say it Tanev. The draft pick should be in play imo.
Bring one of them in and give Bogosians protected spot to them. |

Exactly. I MO he should have waited a year or so.
We keep Armia, or draft Konecny, maybe we have the assets to go get the #2 d man we need |

All fair points, but maybe he was making calls and he just didn't like what he was hearing. Like it was Hall for Risto, or the 8th pick for Fowler. I would guess he's done with the ROR and Kane type blockbuster deals where you give up more players than you get, that's really hard to sustain, especially when they're young.

Now see that falls directly on him though. You take that risk they have to pan out 100%. Hence the hatred some may have towards him.
My opinion, yes its hard to sustain but if you're going to go down this path you go all the way down. you draft prospects in the hopes that one of them turns into something. if you have to crush it to finish the core, you do it. He's more than halfway committed regarding moves like that, its way too late to start re hoarding and playing it safe. |
